22.

   Chapter 22

   Alex leaned in and I gasped.

   Was he going to kiss me? I thought he liked Louise?!

   "Audrey?!"

   I sprang up from Alex's grasp and fell back over. Alex looked at the ground in pure shock.

   "Audrey I'm so-," Alex started but someone interrupted him.

   "Are you guys together? Audrey you're dating Austin! I'm going to te-," Louise started but I interrupted her.

   "No! Please don't tell Austin! Look I don't know what just happened and I don't want to even think about that. I don't like Alex. He tried to kiss me. I don't know okay? He just wanted me to skip school with him because he needed someone to talk to about the break up and I said let's go rollerskating so we did and then I fell and then you ca-,"

   "Slow down. Okay, okay I won't tell, sheesh," Louise said and put her hand on her hip.

   "Aren't you supposed to be in school anyways?" Alex asked finally regaining his voice.

   "Aren't you supposed to be in school?" Audrey asked and then turned back around and skated away.

   I stared at Alex as he slowly stood up on his skates and helped me up.

   "I'm sorry. I don't know what got into me," Alex explained and I shook my head.

   "I don't know what got into you either Alex. You broke my best friend's heart and then you tell me you like my other best friend and then you try to kiss me. You know when you figure all of this out, give me a call," I said coolly and pushed past him and skated off of the floor.

   ♥Alex's POV♥

   What got into me? She's dating Austin. I don't even like her that way. Maybe I'm just confused about everything.

   I feel bad about Sarah- I really do. It's just hard for me to deal with everything because everyone's mad at me for dumping her and I can't exactly tell Louise my feelings since she's sort of mad at me too and I know she wouldn't do that to Sarah.

   I sat down at the the edge of the floor and played with my hands. Audrey had already left probably.

   Maybe I could talk to Austin? 

   I don't know who's my friend and who isn't anymore.

   I felt someone sit next to me and I looked up and saw Louise. I held my breath and looked away from her.

   "What are you doing?" I asked and looked at the ground again. She gave me a puzzled look.

   "I'm sitting?"

   "Aren't you mad at me like everybody else?" I asked and waited for the answer.

   "I'm not very happy about it but I'm not mad. I understand you lost your feelings for her and it's good that you ended it right away," she explained and I smiled.

   "Thanks, and about that Audrey thing, I'm just confused about everything. What I did didn't mean anything."

   "So you don't like Audrey or Sarah? Not at all?" she asked and I think I heard a bit of happiness in her voice but I let it go.

   "Nope, I don't like either of them," I confirmed and she nodded and bit her lip.

   "Do you like anyone?" she asked and suddenly the room became dark and a slow song played. I gulped and my face flushed.

   "Y-Yeah... I do," I stuttered and she nodded again and grabbed my hand.

   "Do you want to dance?" she asked and stood up and extended her arm out for me. I was about to take it but then some guy cam up behind her.

   "Hey Louise long time no see!" the guy said and Louise turned around and gasped. She hugged him and squealed.

   "Um Alex this is my old boyfriend, um sorry I'm going to go skate with him," she explained and skated away laughing with him. I put my face in my hands and wanted to scream.

   ♥Louise's POV♥

   "Do you like anyone?"

   "Y-yeah... I do."

   I shouldn't have asked that. Now he might know that I liked him. 

   Wait I don't like him.

   Yes you do.

   No I liked Brandon. I love Brandon, not Alex. I liked Brandon.

   But Brandon stood me up. He was supposed to meet me here 15 minutes ago but he never showed.

   "Hey Alex... do you want to dance?" I asked hesitantly and mentally slapped myself for saying that. I stood up and helped him up when I heard the voice. Brandon's voice.

   "Hey Louise long time no see," he beamed and I turned around and gasped. It was really him. I wrapped my arms around his waist and nuzzled my head in his shoulder.

   Brandon was my old boyfriend who I still had feelings for. He admitted to having feelings for me too, but we're not exactly boyfriend and girlfriend again just yet.

   I turned around and saw Alex's face and my heart melted. He looked so sad. His eyes were fixed on Brandon.

   Was he... jealous?

   No... Alex doesn't like me.

   "Sorry Alex, um I'm going to go skate with him," I apologized and bit my lip before skating away with Brandon.

   "Who's that?" Brandon asked with a hint of jealousy in his voice.

   "He's just a friend Brandon," I explained and we skating slowly around the rink together.

   "Why'd you bring him here?" he asked through his gritted teeth and I took adeep breath. 

   "I didn't know he was going to be here. I'm sorry," I whispered and he put his arm around me.

   "I'm sorry. I just want to protect you."

   "I know."

   ♥Audrey's POV♥

   "Austin!" I yelled and walked into Austin's house without knocking. It was 4. He should be home by now.

   "Austin!" I yelled again and walked into his room. It was empty. I sighed and walked out of the house. He was probably doing something after school.

   I closed his front door and walked down the sidewalk to my house.

   I walked inside and saw Austin and his mom sitting on the couch with my dad.

   I gave Austin a puzzled look and he shrugged, indicating he didn't know what was going on either.

   "Dad?" I asked and he turned around and smiled.

   "Ah, you're home, come sit down, we have something to say," my dad said and I set my b ag on the ground and hopped on the couch next to my dad.

   "Um as you know, you and Austin are dating...," my dad said and I nodded.

   "Obviously," I muttered and stared at him waiting for him to go on.

   "Um honey, I know how much you like Austin, and I know how much Austin likes you but....," he trailed off again and I knew deep inside what was coming.

   "We're moving."
