We are supposed to go to science but Riley decided to ditch. Something I never thought she would do. Honestly she doesn't seem the type at all. For the most part she seemed like the model student except for the week she didn't come to school. I walk into class and look at the board. My stomach drops. We are doing blood typing today. I can look at blood just fine but for some reason the smell makes me feel panicked and I pass out. The teacher goes on explaining the blood typing. And even shows us what to do by pricking Marissa's finger and getting a drop of blood on the card. I feel the air getting sucked out of the air as the copper metallic smell reach me. I try to control my breathing as I try not to pass out. "Farkle are you alright?" The teacher asks me suddenly. His voice sounding like a bad radio station. "O Negative. My blood type is O negative." I tell him my breath coming in shallow and harsh. "Are you feeling like you are going to pass out?"  "Yes." I tell him honestly wishing I ditched class with Riley.  I hear Marissa offering to take me to the nurse. The teacher agrees and Marissa carefully leads me out of the class room. We walked away from the building and went towards to the Nurses office. "Can I sit down for a minute please?" I ask her still feeling like the world was spinning. She let's me sit down."please keep your right hand in your pocket." I tell her since I can still smell the smell of her blood.

I sit down against the wall and slump over onto my side trying hard not to pass out. "You are so pale Farkle." Marissa says nervously.  I dont answer I just concentrate on my breathing. "Farkle?" I hear a sweet voice say in concern. "Is he hurt?" She asks Marissa. I squeeze my eyes shut in embarrassment. Why does she have to see me like this? "I dont know why he is so faint. He didn't even prick his finger. Only some of us got our fingers pricked.." Marissa trails off. "Farkle? Can you hear me?" Riley says softly like she is sitting right next to me. "Mhm.. hmmm." I respond to her. "I was taking him to the nurse when he had to sit down." Marissa explains. "It's okay I will take him. You can return to class." Riley says seriously. "No I'm supposed to.." she says. Then suddenly i am pulled off the ground. And my arm is thrown around Riley's shoulder and she holds my waist supporting me easily. Despite her being smaller than me. "Ive got him later." Riley says leading me away from Marissa. Marissa has no choice but to return to class. ",Please let me sit down. Everything is spinning." I tell her as I wobble on my feet. Despite this she keeps me on my feet and supports me easily. "So you faint at the sight of blood?" She asks gently. "Not exactly." I tell her as we get to the nurses office and she explains to the nurse what happened and helps me lay on to the cot. Riley even insists on staying with me when the nurse suggest returning to class. The nurse went to get me an ice pack to put on my forehead. "I wish I went with you instead of to class." I admit to her.

Suddenly Riley leaves when another would be fainter comes in. I smell the blood and I leave to find Riley. When I do she smiles at me. "I was hoping you would follow me. But why did you?" "I could smell the blood from His finger." I tell her and she looks at me confused. "Hu..People can't smell blood." she says. "Well I can and it makes me panicky for some reason and that's why I feel like passing out." I tell her honestly not understanding why it happens either. She looks at me with an intense look that I can't read. Then the bell rings and I groan. Its time for PE. "What's wrong?" she asks. "I have PE class." she smiles and takes care of it. She says and she gets me and her excused from our last period classes. Then she insists on driving me home. She tells me she will have Jake drops it off after school. She says leading me to her car. She opens the passenger door. I get in and she puts on my seat belt on for me. Then she shuts my door and gets in the drivers side and takes off.

I try to invite her to La Push since a group of us are going anyway.  But she doesn't seem like she wants to. "Tell me about your mother Farkle." she says changing the subject. I let her. "She is pretty and blonde. She was the popular cheerleader type in high school. She was even prom Queen. I'm too much like Staurt my dad. He is a scientist who focused more on academics then social parties or athletics. And I'm the same. The only thing I have of my mother are my eyes. She is irresponsible often erratic. And I will say creative cook. She is more like a sister than a mother." I tell her missing my mom suddenly. "How old are you Farkle?" she says her tone unreadable. "I'm seventeen." I tell her confused by her question. "You don't seem seventeen." "I know. My mom calls me her man child. She says I was born a twenty year old and just gets older every year. She often tells me I act more like an adult than she does. Well some one had to be the adult. She often wasn't." i tell remembering our last trip to the mall. She was acting more like an excitable teenage girl than a woman in her late 30's. "You don't seem much like a seventeen year old either." I tell her. "Tell me about your step father." she says changing the subject away from herself again.
