Wasn't Drama Like This Supposed to End in Highschool?
Chapter 1
Michael's POV
"Oh my god, MICHAEL! I GOT IN!!"
I heard the sound of a chair falling over in the living room. I ran as fast as I could only to see my best friend practically lying on the ground. Little Elena Mendoza, also known as my best friend in the whole world, was holding an envelope in one hand and a very professional looking letter in the other.
"I did it! After all this hard and seemingly pointless work, i did it! I got into Dayton, we're going to University of Dayton together!"
I gave her a pointed look. "And," she continued, "I got scholarships!!"
I instantly grabbed her waist and twirled her about the room. "YES! I knew you could do it! This is going to be the best college experience ever!"
Let me catch you up on a few things. My name is Michael Barrett and in five short months Elena and I are graduating from highschool. We've been best friends for as long as I can remember, and now after busting our asses for the past five months we're going to college together.
You know those people who are always going on about how life sucks, but really don't have a reason to? Well I think they're crazy.
I've got a beautiful girlfriend, McKenzie Taylor. A kick-ass best friend, Elena. I'm going to the University of Dayton on scholarship. And I'm going to be a successful engineer some day. Life is good.

Five months later: Graduation Party
Michael's POV
Elena's house was packed. Very packed. We'd decided to have a joint graduation party at the beginning of the year. It was split between Me, McKenzie, Elena, and Sam, who was Elena's boyfriend of two years.
Everyone, and I do mean everyone, was there. It was a party to remember.
"Michael! Michaeeellll!!"
Elena. Of course, who else would scream like that? That's my girl, I thought wryly.
"Oh my gosh Michael, we got in, look!!!" That's Elena, ever the hyper one. But once I looked at the paper she was holding I became ecstatic.
"What? The STEM program?? But that was a long shot!"
I remembered back to the time when Elena found out about this academic program that catered specifically to minority students. It was hard to get into, but we'd applied anyways.
Yea, it's no secret that Elena Mendoza was hispanic. She was 100% Peruvian. And she looked the part. Me? People would laugh if I said I was a minority. With my blond hair and blue eyes, I definitely didn't look the part. But my mother was Mexican so BAM! It counts. Anyways...
"Who cares how?" Elena screeched, "We got in!"
I had to admit, I was pretty psyched. So what if it was for the entire summer? So what if i actually had to go to classes? So what?
I was getting a free pass to the best parties and connections at the University. I was gonna know the hot spots before any freshman from Louisville would! And at one of the biggest party schools in the country?
This was gonna be a summer to remember.
