Chapter 4
Elena's POV
The most beautiful boy I had ever seen in my entire life was suddenly down on the ground trying to help me back up. His flawless features screamed Greek God, or some other similar European background.
"Hi, I'm Magdalena. But you can call me Elena."
"Elena!" He practically yelled, "I am so sorry! I wasn't looking at all where I was going!"
I laughed, "I forgive you, just tell me your name, I generally like to know who's knocking me over," I teased.
"Oh, that's right, sorry. My name is Paolo Lombardi."
Hm, Paolo Lombardi. Can't get much more Italian than that, can you? I decided right then and there, that I was going to make Paolo my new best friend at Dayton. Of course, no one could replace Michael, but right now he was a little preoccupied. And Paolo was hot.
Ok, I apologize for this sudden hunger when it comes to guys. I don't understand what's wrong with me. I was never like this before Sam asked me out. Like a hunter stalking its prey. I guess it's because I've never been in a relationship as long as that. Now I was free, and I just wanted to have a little fun. Is that wrong?
"Paolo," I smiled up at him, "I think we're gonna be good friends."

A little while later, I had introduced Sam and Lacey to Paolo and this other kid we had met named Gabe. Gabe Ramirez was from Columbia, accent and all. Add in a few other people, Zac, Jude, Matt, and Jake, and that made up our group. There were plenty of other people in the camp, but I could tell these few were going to be my close friends for a long time.
"Ok guys, listen up!" A soft voice called over our group, which was starting to sound louder than a circus. Amanda, our head counselor for the summer, was possibly the cutest thing I had ever laid eyes on. But she was very soft spoken and practically no one listened to her.
"OK PEOPLE, SHUT UP!" Dan was the Assistant head counselor, along with Ashley, and definitely had the biggest voice in the group. He had our attention in seconds.
"Ok, tonight's activities start in 10 minutes! Please follow us for some icebreakers, then dinner!"
Finally, food. It's about time.
We followed the counselors into a big conference room set up with about 50 chairs in a big kindergarden-like circle. Aw, fun.
"Ok, guys," Amanda had finally gotten our attention and we were all listening, politely. "We're gonna play the name game. You know, pick a chair and sit. Then we'll all go around and say our name after an adjective that starts with the same letter as our name. But you have to remember the name's and adjectives of all the people who went before you. Ready....go!"
We scrambled to get a chair close to Amanda. No one wanted to sit on the other end and have to remember everyone's name.
I ended up between Michael and...well someone else. Honestly, I wasn't paying that person much attention cuz....Michael was on my other side!
"Well hey there...fancy seeing you here!" I smirked at him, I hadn't seen Michael since his little runaway with Mariana. I was a little surprised to see her not with him. But she was just sitting across the room with Lacey and Sam. Guess I got all worried for nothing.
"You miss me, Maggs?" Actually, I kind of did.
"Psh, not a bit Michael." He grinned at me, he was used to the teasing. We'd been teasing eachother since we were old enough to talk. I don't know why I felt threatened by Mariana.
Well anyways, the game started and Michael, being Michael, stood up and said his name was Majestic Michael. Yea, I swear that kid thinks he's royalty. My turn. I name off everybody who's gone, including Polite Paolo (it fits) and Jittery Jake (also very fitting) and decide to play off my five foot nothing frame.
"And I am Mini Magdalena, but you guys can call me Mini Maggie." Why not give myself a new nickname? It's college, time to reinvent myself.
I heard a bunch of "awwww's" from the group and a snicker from Michael, but I sat down, happy with my name change.
The boy next to me stood up and started naming off the rest of the room. If I hadn't been so busy whispering to Michael about my new name, maybe I would've heard him. Maybe I would've noticed how captivating this boy's voice was.
But of course, I was rude and didn't pay him one bit of attention. That is, until I heard his deep, somewhat enchanting voice introduce himself as "Altitudinous Andrew." Well, who the heck chooses a word like that? But when I finally turned to get a look at the boy who had been sitting next to me for the past half hour, I didn't notice his face. But I did notice that altitude truly was his strong point.
He had to be over a foot taller than me. No, more than that. He was a giant. But he wasn't big, kind of gangly, actually. I would have bet anything he was a basketball player.
"OH MY GOD!" Ashley had jumped out of her chair, scaring me half to death. "That's so flippin' adorable!" she squealed, pointing at Andrew and...me. Great. "Photo Op! Please, someone, grab a camera."
As it turns out, Amanda goes nowhere without her very professional looking camera. She jumped up as well, looking extra excited. I don't see what the big deal was. Yea, our height difference was comical, but all this attention? I didn't really like it. All the other participants were crowding around watching Amanda get ready to take our picture.
Comments like, "Aw, their height difference is adorable" and "dude, that's hilarious" filled my ears. We smiled for the camera like good little participants. I still hadn't craned my neck to look at the boy who's arm was now snaked around my waist. But it didn't take long for that to happen.
"Well, hello down there," I heard his voice and it was haunting. So deep, I had to look up. He was grinning down at me. With his dark, somewhat curly brown hair; his sunkissed, and probably never fading tan; and a smile that lit up the entire room, it was an automatic response for me to grin back.
And right there, a flash lit up my peripheral vision, and a click froze that moment in time. The moment that I will remember forever. The moment that I met Andrew Rousseau.
