When I arrive home Claire is already there.
The house is filled with a sweet smell of something that causes my stomach to angrily roar at me.
I walk into the kitchen and drop my keys on the counter, Claire turns are the sound.
"Hi, I'm making pancakes!" she smiles at me.
I love pancakes but I can't hide my excitement for something else.
"My manager, Chris, he asked me out on a date."
Claire's smile instantly faded and something flickered in her eyes.
But then her smile was back.
"Oh really? That's awesome, I'm happy for you Charlie. Now, let's eat."

That night I lay in bed next to a sleeping Claire.
I stare at the ceiling.
My feelings for Claire needed to be forgotten, she could never love me like that...
Claire is smart and beautiful and passionate, she has a clear goal for her life and she is going so many places...she doesn't need someone like me tying her down.
I'm not good enough for her, I never will be.
Chris is a sweet guy...hopefully this date with him will help me get over Claire.
