Vivian waited a moment after Luke went inside before running off to the kids. "Rod, she's coming! I think she's waving to us." Adrian said. The two got on their knees and waited for her to get closer. "Mom, is it safe?" Rod said quietly. "Yeah, we're gonna get a ride into town." Vivian helped them up and walked them to the house.
Luke peeked out the window and saw the approaching group. He was surprised it was just a couple of kids with the woman. He left the window and started making drinks. When the group got to the cabin they all shared awkward smiles with the man. "Come in, I just poured some more drinks for you guys. Water, how your...mom...I presume...likes it." Vivian chuckled weakly and motioned the kids to the table. They all sat and slowly drunk the drinks in silence. Luke cleared his throat. "So...what happened to you, kid?" Rodney pointed to himself in comfirmation. "Yeah, you got cuts all over your face." Rodney glanced at Vivian and she raised her eyebrows. "Um...I fell into one of those bushes." Rodney gently touched one of the marks on his face and winced. Luke looked at the boy and mom quizically then began to laugh. "Oh, man. That sucks. I don't know about needing a hostpital for all that, but whatever floats your boat." Luke set his glass in the sink and ran some water into it. "Hey, I have a radio. We can listen to some music if you guys'd like to?" The group nodded. Luke smiled and headed down the hall to the back room.
Rodney fake shivered "He gives me the heebejeebies" his voice gets lower "I hope he isn't a murderer." Vivian and Adrian looked at him with wide eyes. Rodney snickered. "Ha. I'm just kidding. He seems cool." Adrian scoffed and punched him in the arm. "Hey, what's with all the sudden hostility?" The kids shared glances then looked down. "Oh nothing, just kid stuff." Vivian smiled. "Ah, okay." Luke smiled back. He plugged the radio in them shuffled through some disks. He decided on an 80's mix then placed it in the player. An upbeat song began to play quietly in the background. "Not a bad choice, eh?" The group all agreed. Luke plopped down on the couch and set his feet on the arm rest.
The room talked about different types of music for about fifteen minutes till the conversation died down into an awkward silence. Eventually Rodney Yawned and rested his head on the table. " I agree. It's been a long day. I'm pretty beat." Vivian sighed as she petted Rodney's hair. "Shouldn't be too long till he gets here. Don't worry." Luke smiled. Vivian smiled back. She too rested her head on the table, tapping her fingers along to the music. After a few minutes Adrian asked to excuse her self to the bathroom. "Yep, just the first door right down the hallway."
Adrian entered a small blue bathroom, decorated with a seashell theme. She quickly usd the toilet and washed her hands. She checked herself in the mirror. Besides he hair being a little bit frizzy, she looked normal. Well, not normal, for her reflection was becoming blurry. She blinked a few times but nothing happened. Suddenly her knees felt weak and her head heavy. Her small frame hung to the counter for support, but her grip failed and she eventually fell to the floor unconsious.
"Vivian?" Luke shook her shoulder. No response. He did the same to the boy with the same result. Luke chuckled. "Took a bit longer than I expected. Probably diluted it too much." He said to himself. He walked to the bathroom and knocked on the door. Again, no response. He opened the door and found Adrian passed out on the floor, her face agasint the base of the toilet. Luke gave a look of disgust. "Unfortunate timing, my friend." He stepped over her and pulled aside the shower curtain. He then picked Adrian up and set her in the tub. "That should be safe for now." Beep. Luke's walkie talkie went off. He made his way to the door and stuck the device outside. Beep. "You almost here?" Luke said impatiently. Beep. "Yeah, Just passed the stump. Be there in a sec." Beep.
Luke could now hear the sound of the vehicle approaching. An older blue pickup truck pulled up in front of the house. The egnition turned off and a younger man hopped out with a few bags. "Are they ready? I just gotta use the bathroom then I can go." Luke took some bags and held the door open. "Uh, yeah, they're fine. The just fell asleep while they were waiting. The second man placed the bags on the small crowded counter. "Ah" he glanced at the two people sleeping on the table "Well, tell em' to wake em up. I'll be back in a sec." The man disappeard down the hall.
Luke sighed. He shook Vivan agressivley till she groaned in her sleep. "No use." He placed one of Vivian's arms around his shoulder then carried her to the truck. He placed her inside and buckled her in place. "God, I feel like I'm in A Weekend at Bernie's." He chuckled as he brought the boy out. He had just barely put him in the truck when the second man came out fiddling with a pack of gum. "Man, did they get drunk or something? They look like dead bodies." Luke coughed. "Yeah, they just...had a rough day. Apparently the kid fell into a bush and got all cut up. Pretty torn up about it. I wouldn't wake him up unless you wanna hear about it for an hour." The man put his hands up in defense and chuckled. "Woah. No thanks." The man hopped back into the truck and started it up. "Where did they want dropped off exactly?"
"I'd just go to town and have them call when they reach service."
He nodded ans drove off.Luke watched the truck drive off till it was out of view then headed back inside. He locked the door and headed to the bathroom. He pulled apart the curtain and stood there, looking at the girl. He touched his chest and smiled. Luke bent down and gently stroked Adrian's face. "I haven't seen anything as pretty as you in many years."
