Chapter 3: Blank.

"Bobby, enough".
He wouldn't stop playing. His eyes focused on the screen as his player sprinted across and targeted his next victim. Bobby was so immersed in the game that instead of just 15 minutes, as they had planned, 2 hours had gone by. Rachel decide to rest a bit but he hadn't stopped even after she got up. It was like Bobby was trying to avoid the fact that they were stuck in this lonely world, with the 'ghroulers', by playing video games. Just like he did when Faith died.

He heaved a depressed sigh as he slowly placed the PS4 controller on the floor. Rachel noticed him shutting the game down and came and sat by him, Indian style.

"Hey, what's wrong. I could see you weren't just playing Call of Duty-"

"I was playing Assassins Creed ." Rachel looked at him with both eyebrows raised up. "Oh umm, continue, continue."

"I was trying to be a considerate person and you just ruined it."

"Sorry. I know I wasn't just playing the game for the sake of playing it. It's just my way of forgetting how much I'm suffering, how much trouble I am in. That's what made me a game addict. I missed a year of school in rehab."

"Bobby, I-- wait, rehab? That must've been pretty severe."

"Yeah. My twin died in a crash. She was like my only best friend. It was a bad time".

"Bobs, I'm so sorry".

"Yeah, I know. Wait what did you call me?"

"Nothing, I called you Bobby".
The two laughed, their voices sounding the silence in the deserted house. Then they stopped.

"What do we do now, I mean do we just sit here and wait for them to come get us?"
Bobby began pondering over how they could begin planning their survival.

"Ah, remember you said we should get fro-yo? I think we should go. Plus it's free".

"No, fro-yo can wait. Staying alive is more important".

"Yeah but we're not in danger".

"I know, but we have to be prepared for anything".

"Umm okay. Why don't we start with trying to Understand WHAT THE FUC*KING HELL is going on".

"Exactly. Good question. Which I have I think I might have an answer to. We go back to school and check the security footage. Maybe there's something on it that'll show us".

"Yeah, you're right. I was in the bathroom and- so were you, right?- when everyone poofed. We don't know something that happened. Probably the 'ghroulers'. We should go check it out. Like now".

Bobby and Rachel stormed out of the house and rushed towards the school. The doors were still open from when they left. A huge Oil puddle formed a miniature 'moat' in front of the entrance. They jumped over it and began searching their way to the CCTV room in the school.

"Damn, I wish I knew this school better. Fu*k, I didn't even know where the cafeteria was".

Fortunately they found a 'school map' and that led them to the small triangular door that read SCHOOL CCTV.

Rachel pushed against the door. It didn't open. "Sh*t."

"No wait. Do u have bobby pins?"

"Bobby pins?"

"Haha. No you doofus, those long thin  metal clips girls wear. Do you have them?"

"Yeah". Rachel dug ferociously into her abnormally thick auburn hair and pulled out two pins.

Bobby clicked both pins into the key hole and with a few swift movements, the door swung open.

"Wow. That's cool. You should teach me how you do that".

"Yeah maybe later".

The room was small and tight. There was a roller chair in front of a set of computers that were all shut down. Bobby, as quick minded as he was, turned them all on and hacked the passwords of all the three computers.

"Why are you being so awesome right now?".

"I always am, Rachel". Bobby smirked as he began to retrieve the footage from the computers.

"Rachel, come look".

It was 8:15 when he had gone to the bathroom by the lockers- the same time Rachel went the other way. 1 minute through and everything was normal in the footage. Then everything went white. Blank. Poof. All Bobby could do was imagine the ghroulers sucking the bodies of all the students and staff and vividly envisioned their flabbergasted and terrified faces.

"So this is what we get? Fu*k the world! Even the CCTV sh*t won't tell us what happened." Rachel expressed her raging thoughts.

"Calm down. Maybe the CCTV cameras couldn't capture paranormal activity. Let's just assume there are a lot more ghroulers and they are a threat to us". Bobby tried to calm her as he continued thinking of a suitable explanation for the unexplainable footage.

Rachel paced angrily around the small floor of the room. Her hands dug into her hair as she massaged her head in annoyance.

"So we know nothing. How are we supposed to stay alive if we don't know what's trying to kill us? I don't think the ghroulers are after us. If they were-"

"They would've already gotten us already". Bobby sighed as he completed Rachel's sentence. They both stared stared at each other in silence. Both of them slid down and rested their backs on the wall. Rachel softened her hard expression. Bobby looked at her. Wow, she's pretty, he thought silently. He continued watching her flawless face and  soft, deep brown eyes until Rachel turned and saw him staring at her. He quickly tried to hide his flushed face. Rachel smiled. Bobby continued to blush. They stayed like that in the quiet for sometime.

"Bobby, you wanna go get fro-yo now?"

"How could I ever say 'no' to fro-yo?"

Rachel laughed and they walked out of the school, temporarily forgetting the dilemma they were in.
And then they ordered- no, took two large cups of frozen yogurt and ate it silently in the empty shop.
