Chapter 4: A third person.

"And then he-".
Rachel stopped laughing and got up from her chair. She looked somewhere over the cashier counter.
"I just saw something move".

Bobby followed her gaze, sitting on his seat, still sucking on the plastic spoon. Rachel walked towards the counter with slow and wary steps. Then she screamed.
"Oh ma gawd! How do you scream that high?" Bobby covered his ears that were still ringing from her high screech.

But Rachel had screamed because she saw a young girl, no more than 12, cowering under the cashier desk. The both of them had thought everyone was dead. They were wrong.

Rachel helped the the shaken girl up.
"Hey there, what's your name?" She tried to comfort the girl whose eyes brimmed with tears.

"Every- everyone they- they disappeared. And I saw ghosts- looked like body sucking dementors. They were-" the girl didn't finish her sentence. She let out the tears that were clinging onto her eyes. "They took my parents away".

Bobby got up from his seat and went towards them. "Hey, I'm Bobby. That's Rachel. It's been a shocking thing for us too, to find everyone gone. But we have each other and we can work together for our survival. Why don't you tell us your name first and then we can get started?"

"I'm Isla".

Rachel gave Isla an amiable smile and gestured her to sit on the vacant chair by the table they were sitting on.

"Okay Isla, we just want to know what you saw exactly". Bobby went straight to the point.

"It was scary. First everything was normal. And then the next moment there were these dementor ghost things and they made everyone disappear- except me".

"How many were there?" Bobby urged Isla to continue.

"A lot. I mean, they just appear and disappear-".

"Thanks Isla. Well, that cleared our doubts about the ghroulers, Rachel."

"Not entirely".

"What are ghroulers?", Isla asked them both, extremely confused.

"That's what we started calling the demontor ghost thing".

The 12 year old girl laughed nervously.

"We won't die, right?" , Isla asked and suddenly grew solemn.

"Not if we stick together and figure this out", Rachel assured her.

It was almost 6:30 when the trio left the shop. The clouds hung oppressively in the sky. There was no sun and none of the streetlights were turned on. The only light that guided them through the dark streets was the light that penetrated through the windows of the many houses that were lined on the sides of the road.
Bobby joked and kept both Rachel and Isla happy and distracted from the terrified feelings they had.

Even Bobby was sh*t-scared as well, but he tried to obscure those frightened feelings and put on a brave, carefree act in front of the girls. He had to show them that they didn't have to worry, because he was going to understand the sh*t that was going on and make it alright.
----------------------------------------------------------------

They neared Bobby's house after 10 minutes of walking. The door was open. Bobby distinctly remember closing the door when they left for the school earlier that day.

"Stop." He held his hand and obstructed Isla and Rachel from entering the house.

"What's wrong, Bobs?". Rachel began laughing and Isla joined. But Bobby didn't.

"I'm being serious. I swear to God I remember closing the door when we went to the school. And now it's open."

Rachel's face turned grim. Isla continued to be clueless.

"So should we enter or stay outside?" , Rachel asked Bobby, her face still serious.

"I'm going in. You two stay here". Before Rachel could stop him, Bobby already disappeared into the darkness of the house.

There was faint yellow lighting as he took the first few steps into the house. Bobby followed the light and it grew brighter as he climbed up the stairs. When he reached the landing, he noticed his room door was ajar. The yellow light was brightest from his room and he shielded his eyes from the blinding light using his hands as he entered.

Bobby froze in shock. An inhuman being emerged from nowhere as he stepped in his room. Another one arrived, but this time Bobby noticed a ghrouler in the corner. It opened the black hole in its milky head and spewed out another vulgar being from its 'mouth'.

Bobby gaped at the shocking revelation. His face was white and almost turned the color of the ghrouler. The three new sickening creatures noticed Bobby standing transfixed in terror and advanced towards him.

But his quick reflexes kicked in. Bobby scrambled down the flight of stairs and pushed Rachel and Isla out of the doorway in a frenzy.

"QUICK! CLOSE THE DOOR. GIVE ME YOUR HAIR PINS. NOW!"

Rachel immediately noticed that something was off and she hastened to retrieve the pins from her bushy hair.

Bobby locked the door just as loud pounding was heard on the other side.

"BOBBY WHAT HAPPENED UP THERE?" Rachel asked, her voice sounding tense.

"NO TIME TO EXPLAIN, JUST FU**ING RUN!!"

Bobby raced forwards and Rachel followed him, dragging Isla along. But the creatures only materialized from the door and began following them. Isla saw the unearthly beings and screamed. Rachel noticed them too and began running faster. They ran for what seemed like forever. Isla grew tired easily and slumped onto the middle of the road. The two high schoolers shook their heads and went back to collect her. Bobby turned back and realized they had temporarily lost the creatures and he decided to explain what he had seen in the house to the two confused girls.

"Those- umm, 'things'  came out from the ghroulers. They appeared from its mouth or whatever. I've decided those creatures are zombies."

"Woah, hold on. Zombies?", Rachel panted.

"Guys, I think the 'zombies' are the people the ghroulers sucked- and then puked". Isla said, hoping she was wrong.

But Rachel and Bobby thought it was the most likely explanation.

"Rachel, you were right. Nowhere is safe". Bobby said solemnly and they all continued panting in the silence.
