Emotions always got the best of people. Emotions were annoying and a total waste of time, but that didn't stop people from having them. Most people used emotion as a reason or excuse for the way they behaved, wether it was foolishly or honorably. Her reason for the mistake, her emotion was loneliness. She also knew that his reason was the same, that and she was sure the alcohol had something to do with it. She rarely drank alcohol, so she couldn't fathom why she had drank so much. Had it been a special occasion? Better yet, what had she been doing drinking with him. She stared across the headmaster's office to where the beautiful phoenix, Fawkes, was perched peacefully. After opting to stay in bed all day rather then go to class, the head master requested to see her. It was incredibly rare for her to miss class, so he was concerned when she missed the whole day. She rested her head back against the arm of the sofa she sat in when the door opened. She stood up and turned around to face the door.
The headmaster was came in with a man on his heels. Andromeda made a small noise before trying to make herself invisible, but they had already seen her so she stood her ground. She met the dark eyes of Severus Snape with a stare meant to show him she was afraid. Snape sneered back at her before sitting down in a chair opposite the headmaster's desk. Now with his back turned to her, she felt she could look more closely at him. He had changed back into his normal black robes and his hair hung loosely around his shoulders. The head master looked at her over the top of his half moon spectacles.
"Andromeda" He spoked her name, his voice low but not angry. "You missed your classes to day. Is everything okay?" Andromeda looked at the Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore and gave a small smile.
"Yes Grandpa, everything's fine. I just wasn't feeling right this morning" She looked at Snape to see if he had a smart ass comment to make, but for once he remained silent. His skin seemed to go paler and his lips formed a thing tight line. He appeared to be contemplating something. Probably wondering if she was going to say anything about what happened the night before. "I was nauseous and light headed. I didn't want to risk getting sick in class." And I was avoiding Snape, Andromeda thought to herself but kept that part to herself.
"Do you need to go to the hospital wing?" Albus looked at her concerned. She shook her head.
"No, I got some sleep and i'm feeling much better" She sat in the chair next to Snape and saw him stiffen in the chair next to her.
"Well, then you can go back to your dorms" Albus spoke, letting her know that the conversation was over. She got and turned to leave. "Oh and Andromeda" She stopped in her tracks, nervous that he may have found out some how. "Please make sure to be at your classes tomorrow"
"Yes Grandpa" She said with a nod and left the room. As she closed the door she could hear Snape start to talk. For some reason she wanted to hear his voice, so she listened.
"Albus, I made a mistake. I ... uh... had to much to drink last night and slept with someone i should haven't have" Andromeda covered her mouth to keep herself from gasping. The bastard had told her no to tell anyone and here he was telling the headmaster, no, her grandfather what happened. She heard him sigh warily. "I can't tell you who, but i haven't any idea why i did it" She heard her grandfather get up and move to what was probably the liquor cabinet. A moment later he was sitting again.
"This person, who you can't tell me her name, do you love her?" Andromeda held her breath in anticipation of his answer.
"No" came his hesitant response. She let out the breath she was holding and fled, tears forming in her eyes. She didn't why she was crying, she didn't even like the man, but something about being rejected twice in the last twenty-four hours by him was more then her heart could take.
Severus Snape's P.O.V.
He stared at Dumbledore as he asked if he loved the person he slept with. Severus had known Andromeda since she was very young. He had watched her grow as she was practically raised by the staff of Hogwarts. Se even called Minvera McGonagall Auntie Minnie when it was just her and the staff. Yet as she had grown into a woman he found himself attracted to her, but knew she would never love him back. He was cold towards her, treated her worse then the others, claiming its due to her being in Gryffindor. Last year when she had turned fifteen she had enough, she got so fed up with his attitude that she started talking back. Her change of demeanor had caused gryffindor to lose points and gained her many detentions. He had begun to love her then, but detached himself from her so he wouldn't begin to hope that there was love for him.
"No" He met Dumbledore's sparkling pale blue eyes. The same pale blue eyes that Andromeda had, the ones that gazed at him almost lovingly the night they slept together. Albus smiled at him as he handed him a glass of fire whiskey. With one quick motion Severus downed the whole thing.
"Why the hesitation, Severus?" Severus looked up at the headmaster before setting his empty glass on the desk.
"If you must know, Headmaster" Severus tone was even and cool. "I've known her a long time and she irritates me to no end, that's not to say she isn't a beautiful woman, but she's a bit too wild for me. All in all, Albus, even if i did love her, she would never accept me, especially with the up coming events." Severus watched as Albus frowned and then nodded. Severus turned to go
"Severus, if you care for this woman, then the safest place for her is with you" Dumbledore smiled at him. Severus felt as if Dumbledore was speaking as if he knew who he had slept with. That seemed impossible, Dumbledore would be furious if he found out.
"Yes, Sir" Severus managed to make it out the door before Albus could say anything else. Guilt swept over his body, he had lied to the head master and he had lied to himself. As he made his way back to his office he scowled, guilt was such a useless emotion. Along with love. It go people into trouble. He refused to believe he was in love with Andromeda, or that he would ever be able to love someone again.
Andromeda's P.O.V.
A couple of months had passed since Andromeda had woken up in his bed. Other then a few awkward moments bumping into each other in the hallway things were pretty much back to normal. Andromeda had made it to all her classes without any issues. Today she was sitting at breakfast with a few of her friends when she felt nauseous. She knew she was going to throw up, so she got up and ran for the nearest girl's bathroom. After she emptied her stomach, which consisted of nothing since she hadn't been able to eat the last few days, she washed off her face and made her way out of the bathroom. Standing outside the door was the last person in the school she wanted to see.
"Professor" Andromeda said softly, her voice rather weak from lack of sleep and food. She rested her hand against the wall.
"How long have you been sick?" Professor Snape asked her. His tone was cold and unfeeling. It made her want to shiver.
"I'm not sick" Andromeda took a step forward nearly stumbling over her own feet. She would have fallen over if he hadn't grabbed her by the arm to steady her. At his touch she felt her heart beat faster. She pulled away from him, "I said i was fine"
"You don't look fine to me, Miss Dumbledore" He grabbed her arm again this time tightly so she couldn't get loose. "I'm taking you to see Madam Pomfrey."
"You most certainly will not" Andromeda tried to pull out of his grip. He had been acting a bit strange since the night they slept together. He either ignored her, berated her or seemed to worry about her. He would watch her from a distance when he thought she wasn't looking. She found it a bit unsettling. "Let go of me"
"Andromeda, please see reason" Andromeda stopped struggling against his grip and looked up at him with shock, he never says please. "You have been growing week, sleeping in class and barely eating. Something is wrong with you and as a teacher in this school its my responsibility to see to your well being."
"I am not weak" Andromeda managed to respond her voice soft. She could feel herself becoming weaker, she knew if she didn't get away from him, she would pass out in front of him, and she didn't want him to see her that way. "I am perfectly fine, now please let go of me"
"Fine" Snape growled at her and released her arm. As he did she could feel it coming. She fell forward against his chest, he caught her putting his arms around her gently. She had never know this man to be gently or caring. He lifted her easily into his arms and made his way to the hospital wing. "What did i tell you, you stupid girl"
"I am not stupid" Andromeda managed before she finally closed her eyes and let the much needed sleep come over her.
Next thing she knew she was walking up in the hospital wing of the castle. Her grandfather was sitting in a chair near her bed and Snape was pacing back and fourth off in the corner. Madam Pomfrey was checking some paperwork that she had in her hand. Andromeda sat up slowly feeling refreshed but hungry.
"Madam Pomfrey" She spoke softly still getting her voice back. "What's wrong with me?"
