Chris POV
Jorja and I high-five each other as we walk into the campus again.
Apparently after our last class, the rest of the classes for the day were cancelled because something urgent came up for the professors to deal with. So the remaining kids walking around in the hallway, not particularly doing anything, but enjoying the unexpected freedom. The ones who are not in the academic building are probably in the gym or the dorm.
"Watcha wanna do now?" I ask, checking if the simulation room is open. Nope, it's full,
"I don't really know. You wanna - " Jorja frowns and mumbles "Shut up, phone" when her phone beeps. Last week I hacked her phone, just for pure fun, and now every time a new news comes up - which is like every single minute - her phone beeps like crazy until she checks it.
She swears under her breath as she turns on her phone.
I still haven't fixed that yet, just because I'm that evil. She doesn't even know it was me who did that. But I don't intend to tell her - she'll probably beat me up and I'll never see the light again. She's an athletic major and I'm a computer major. No freaking way I'm gonna beat her in a combat match!
I watch her with a smirk on my face.
Then her expression changes from annoyed to serious.
"No fucking way." she mumbles. Before I can say anything, she shows her phone to me. Out of all the news headlines, one catches my eyes almost instantly.
Daniel Altan Wing and his family to land at Los Angeles today, 1430 hours.
Wait...what?
"You think it's a joke?" she asks.
"No, it can't be," I reply. "That's connected directly to the Republic government server. Anything that comes up here is 100% accurate," I reply, not realizing what I just said.
"Wait, how do you know that?" she asks,
Without thinking, I blurt out. I guess I'm too astonished by the news. "Cuz, I did that."
What the hell? I didn't just say that!
She gives me a death glare, and I can't help but flinch. "I'm sorry!" I quickly shout out. "It was a joke! Hey! At least it was useful!"
She shakes her head. "I hate you. Do you know how annoying it is to having to check your phone like every single minute?"
I grin, wrapping my arm around her shoulder. "Oh, you love me. Cuz no one's got that news yet...except the government officials and us. And it's now...1400 hours."
We look at each other once again, and dart out of the hallway as fast as we can. We sprint to the parking lot, looking for our car. Okay, fine. Jorja's car.
She unlocks the doors, and we swing ourselves in. Me in the passenger seat, Jorja behind the wheels. She doesn't trust me with the wheels - says I'm too crazy.
We speed up, ignoring almost every light, and magically arrive at the airport in twenty minutes - it's a thirty-minute distance from Drake to the airport.
We wait there, trying to look casual. There are high people everywhere, including Commander Iparis and...darn! Including Elector Primo!
Ten minutes pass slowly, but in the end, the gate slides open, revealing...
Daniel Altan Wing.
I nudge Jorja, maybe a little too hard, and jut my chin at Daniel's direction. Her mouth gapes open, and so does mine.
