Melinda Jo eyes her for a moment, then nods. "Tell me about him."

"Who?"

"Whoever you're daydreaming about."

"MelJo, I'm not--"

"--Anne, I know you."

"Fine." Anne leans back and grins. "He's blonde, with the brightest blue eyes I've ever seen. He's quiet, compassionate, and always ready to listen. He's really firm about what he believes, and he's always ready to stick up for it. He treats me like a lady-- which nobody does anymore. He's got the cutest smile, too."

"Oh gosh. You gotta introduce me to him."

"Well..."

"What?" Her friend sits up, waving her hands emphatically. "Why don't you just marry him? Does he smoke? Help him quit? Does he hang around other women? Fix it! Is he blind? That's romantic! What's wrong with showing me my future brother-in-law?"

"Nothing! But you might...well, he's...really short. You might even call him tiny."

Melinda Jo bursts out laughing and rolls off the couch, clutching her stomach. She gets a gentle kick in the ribs. "Hey! No laughing!"
