Melinda Jo doesn't recognize her.

She's staring at Anne, but she doesn't see her.

Anne's breath is coming in fast, and she reaches out quickly to grab her friend's shoulders. "MelJo! What happened?"

The blonde is lifeless, like a puppet, or a robot that hasn't be given orders yet. They had dragged her off to God knows where, and she came back like this. Anne presses a hand to her mouth, eyes flooding over. This can't be happening. She won't let it.

"MelJo?" She whispers, hesitantly. There is no reply.

She's helpless to do anything, so without blinking twice, she throws herself at her friend and wraps her arms around her neck.

"I don't know what they did to you." She says, a sob escaping. "I don't know why you don't recognize me. But I swear to you, Melinda Jo, I'll find a way to fix this. I won't ever leave you, I promise. You're my sister, in everything but blood, and I love you."

Her voice cracks on the last part, and she squeezes her eyes shut and buries her face into MelJo's cold and stiff shoulder. She would have never thought MelJo could forget her, but she'll fix it, she has to--

Then, she's grabbed. Solid arms wrench her from her friend, and she's dragged off down the corridor. She screams and kicks, but they simply slam her head against the wall to immobilize her.

--this can't be how it ends.
