life as we know it

Life as we know it, is cruel and untrusting.

The peace we once had is now old and rusting.

We are cowards,

We are afraid to stand up for what we believe in,

Because the people with a .45 in their hands have more 'power',

Life as we know it,

Is living in fear,

Scared because of the things we hear.

This is not living,

It's just breathing.

Siting on a bench,

A officer on your right,

A black man to your left.

You wonder who will be killed first.

The officer, for killing someone inoccent,

Or the black man, for theft.

Life as we know it,

Is a war.

And no one is winning anymore.

Our minds have made up these reasons for the sins we commit.

What have we done to deserve this.

If we all could except,

We are all born different,

That we can't change.

Maybe our peers will stop being someone's shooting range.

Life as we know it,

Is crazy and loud.

Under our flag we used to stand proud.

But now people burn it to the ground.

The anthem we sing in memory of our fallen,

We used to stand tall,

Now we neal now and don't stand at all.

Life as we know it,

Is full of hate and lies,

Someone we once believed in,

Is now one we all despise.

We hide in plain sight,

As the riots start in the night.

We set fires to buildings and to cars,

The ones watching the news can't belive they took it that far.

Life as we know it,

Is full of these people,

The ones that hate others because of their religion or race,

The ones the hate others because they don't have a beautiful face.

We need to stop forcing what we believe in, on other people.

Their sexuality has nothing to do with you,

Their race is not something they can change or redo.

Their religion is what they believe,

Just because it's your 'pet peeve',

Doesn't mean you can make them leave.

Life as we know it,

Changes every day,

It pulls us each and every way.

The way we fall,

Is down.

The way we climb,

Is up.

We are stuck in the middle slowly falling.

We don't have the stregth or the audacity,

To try to reach the top.

Life as we know it,

Has lost its hope
