There was this glow in his eyes that I hadn’t seen in a long time, the last time I saw it well, me and him were dating. It was a bit awkward but I chose to ignore it.

“Aw shucks, you look great too,”

“Um, let’s get going I’m pretty hungry,” he said, and I laughed.

Dinner was fun, there was all this St. Lucian entertainment and it was good to be in a place where almost no one knew who we were. We could just have fun and relax.

“So, wanna talk about what happened?” he finally asked, and I sighed with discomfort.

“I don’t know what happened, I thought I knew what I wanted, I thought I was ready but I just, I wasn’t thinking, I was feeling and although I know the feelings are there, the timing just wasn’t right, and I just couldn’t do it.”

Tom was staring directly into my eyes, and he listened to every word I said keenly.

“Feelings for who? Liam or Andy?”

“Liam.”

“Don’t you think the guy is pretty messed up right now because of what you did to him?”

“I know I know, I screwed up but that’s why I want to start over.”

“Start over?”

“Yes, without neither one of them. Just on my own, no drama, focus on my career, focus on school.”

“Sounds like you wanna go back to the way you were before you met them..”

“I kinda do, but that’s a bit impossible as you might know. I bet the whole of England loathes me now.”

“No they don’t!” Tom argued, and I gave him a stern look.

“Okay, maybe half of England hates you, but it’ll pass. Don’t even think about it.”

“So how’ve you been anyways? How’s diving? How’s Chris, Jack and Tonia?”

“Wow, those are many questions. For starters, I’ve been alright just gearing up for world champs, hoping I’m fit enough to beat the Chinese guys this time round. Chris is doing well, Jack and Tonia, still down in Plymouth training real hard. Nothing new really.”

“Oh I’m glad you’re happy.”

“Hey, things will work out. Don’t worry.”

“I really hope so. I really hope Liam doesn’t hate me. He’s my bestfriend. I’d never want that.”

“Liam is the kindest guy I know, he’ll never hate you. But it’s gonna take some time to gain his trust again.”

I remained silent, memories of the wedding kept flashing in my head. Liam’s expression when I left him standing there, and Andy’s when I refused to leave with him. It was all just a bit overwhelming.

“Well, I think you should get some rest. Tomorrow I’m taking you hiking.”

“What?”

“Figured we need to see the island a bit, so yeah. Pick you up at 8.”

He then escorted me to my room, gave me a good night hug and then left. I just lay on my bed and tried to fall asleep and not think about Liam or Andy or anything to do with the wedding.

“Angie! Wake up its 8! We gotta go!” Tom shouted from outside my bedroom. His knocks had woken me up and I immediately got out of my bed and opened the door for him in my pyjamas.
