A sport is defined as-

an activity involving PHYSICAL EXERTION and SKILL that is governed by a set of RULES or customs and often undertaken COMPETITIVELY.

Physical? You bet. Running, standing in the sun for hours holding a heavy metal item, and marching around a field until 7 in the afternoon with minimal water breaks and the heat index is about 104, yeah, I'd call that physical.

Skill? If having correct marching technique while hitting the right spots on the field and playing complicated music while doing visual isn't skill, I don't know what is.

Rules? Plenty of them. Also, if you don't follow them, your band could get points deducted.

Competitive? There are marching band competitions EVERYWHERE. You should go to one sometime, some of the shows are really cool!!!

So, according to the above definition from Merriam-Webster, marching band is a sport. Next time, get your facts straight. <3 the marching band.
