3 years later.
"I can't believe you talked me into this." I signed into my phone, trying to pull down my dress with my free hand.
"Listen Jade, you haven't been on a date in forever! You need to get out. You are done school this year, it's time to find love."
"Ava's right Jade." Sam laugh into the phone.
"But he's late." I whined trying to look around for Ryan, the guy from the picture Ava had shown me.
"5 minutes isn't really late. You said you would give this a try, and be opened minded." Even though I couldn't see here I known the look she was giving me right now.
"Fine. I'll wait 15 minutes tops but that's it!"
"20! If he's not there then we'll come join you."
"Will you pay for the wine?" I questioned.
"Yes! Now get off your phone!" Sam yelled before hanging up.
I sighed once more before putting my phone into my purse. Trying to look around once more as I did. I can believe I let Sam and Ava talk me into to this date.
Yeah, it may have been awhile since I went on a date. But it's hard being in university, trying to get my PHD, dealing with a crazy ex, and then trying to find someone who is actually interested in you.
But I know Ava just wants the best. I was a wreak when Harry, left. I couldn't eat, or sleep. Throw in Jake's case being reopened and having to go to court. All while trying to pass my classes.
"Jade?" I could almost hear Harrys' voice now. His raspy British accent, it always made me smile the way his laugh even had an accent.
"Jade."
"Ry-Harry?" My stomach filled like a balloon as a turned to find him standing right behind me.
"Are you waiting for someone?" He asked.
"I was, but I don't think he's coming." I don't know how I am able to talk, but I'm sure the look on my face shows that.
"Well," he chuckled a little. " I was supposed to have a meeting here today but it got canceled. Would you care to sit and have a drink with me?"
Before I could really understand what he was saying, I found myself nodding. My body following him to a table, without my brain knowing what is happening.
"Can I get you anything sir? miss?" The waiter asked coming over as soon as we sat down.
"Yes. A bottle of Sassicaia please." Harry answered. I just smiled, and nodded.
I took this chance to finally look at him, really look at him. He's hair was still short, but some grey was pecking through, his eyes are still as bright as ever, but his face has definitely aged.
"You look good." I finally said giving him a small smile.
"By good you mean old." He laughed, showing off his dimples. "But you, you look good." He said eyeing me up and down a little.
"Harry, I'm just going to cut the crap." I smiled to make it sound less rude. "When did you come back? And why are we sitting here?"
"We're are old friends catching up." He smiled, raising a glass of wine. I nodded a little taking a sip of wine.
"So how have you been?"
"Good. I finally graduated this year, for good. What about you?"
"Well, I now own my dads business he retired two years ago. I've been here for about a month moved back into my house, it feels weird to be back." He leaned back into his chair, waiting for me.
"You never wrote me back." I whispered into my glass. I didn't look up at him, but I could see him nodding. Knowing this is exactly what I wanted to talk about.
"Jade, to be honest by the time you wrote me back I was kinda with someone, and I knew if I had wrote back it would become a thing and I didn't want to ruin what could have been."
"And?" I asked, still not looking up at him.
"And what?"
"And what did become of it?"
"Nothing." He smiled leaning forward to take my free hand. "She wasn't you."
"Oh so she was older." I joked trying to make this less awkward.
"Well, she was my age. But that's not the point,"
"And what is the point?" I ask finally looking up at him.
"The point is that I've never been able to find someone like you, and I bet you feel the same." He smirked, letting go of my hand and leaning back again.
"Are you turning this into a way to compliment yourself?" I laughed, leaning back as well.
"I would never. But I want to know one thing."
"Yes?"
"What do you want? Do you want to start over or leave this table and pretend this didn't happen?"
"Harry don't you think this is a bit much? It's been 3 years since we've seen each, we are different people now." I took another sip of wine, as his smile faded a little.
"Jade, I want to be a part of your life even if I'm just someone you send a Christmas card to, I want to be there for you again."
"Harry I don't kn-"
"Before you answer I feel like you should know Ava planned this."
"Of course she did! I should have known, this is the place we had our first date." I laughed, taking his hand in mine.
"If Ava could have gone through all this trouble, I will give this try." His grip on my hand got tight as I spoke.
"But, we start as friend. We restart." I smiled.
"Ok then. I'm Harry and you are."
"Jade." I smiled, trying not to laugh. Knowing this was the start of something new, oddly comforting, and beautiful.
