"What happened, dear?" Toriel asked, setting a plate of cookies in front of the two of you.
Your hands tingled from the heat coming from the cup of tea you were holding, "Me and G had a fight, I just didn't think I could stay there tonight." You looked into the cup of tea, shaking your head at your reflection.
"Oh, I know how fights are." Toriel said, and smiled softly.
"Opal, what are you doing here?" You heard Frisk ask, and you turned to see her at the bottom of the stairs, walking towards you.
"Her and G got in a fight, Frisk." Toriel said for you, patting the space next to her on the couch, gesturing for Frisk to sit down. "She'll be staying with us tonight."
"We're gonna have two people staying with us?" Frisk said, cramming cookies in her mouth.
"Two?" You asked, giving Toriel a look of confusion.
"There was a man that came by here a while ago, huge bruise on his jaw, said he didn't have anywhere to go and asked if he could stay with us, obviously I obliged, I felt bad for the poor man." Toriel answered, casually taking a sip of her tea.
You froze.
"What did he look like?" You asked, taking a cookie and biting into it, trying to act casual, "I think I might know him."
"Oh, brown hair, green eyes, he had a great smile, he was so nice." Toriel continued rambling about the man, but you had spaced out, connecting the dots.
Caben wasn't on the porch when you had run out of the house.
Caben had brown hair and green eyes.
Caben was here.
You sighed and rubbed your temples, mumbling to yourself, "Dear god, I don't have time for this."
"You alright, dearie?" Toriel asked, putting a hand on your shoulder.
"Yeah, just tired." You smiled softly, and Toriel patted your head.
"Frisk, why don't you go show Opal your bedroom, she seems like she needs rest." Toriel said, gesturing at Frisk.
Frisk, with 15 cookies in her mouth, nodded. She jumped up and ran towards the stairs, you following slowly.
"Cmon slowpoke!" She teased, grabbing your hand and pulling you into a room, "Your staying in my room tonight, since the guy already took the guest bedroom." She said, throwing a couple blankets down on the floor since Asriel was already sound asleep in the separate bed, snoring loudly.
Frisk plopped down onto her bed, eyes closing soon after as she fell asleep almost immediatly, but you, even hours later, stared blankly at the ceiling.
Finally, you had had enough of the silence suffocating you, and you stood slowly, tiptoeing across the floor, careful not to wake anyone.
The door creaked open, and you cursed its squeaky hinges. The wood hallway floor creaked with almost every step, and you tried to be as quiet as you could. You wandered aimlessly around the house, trying almost every knob on every door in the house, most of them locked.
Slightly bored, you carelessly tried another knob, not expecting the door to swing open.
You definetley didn't expect to see Caben sleeping peacefully in the room either.
He rustled, turning over to face you, "Opal?" He whispered, sitting up.
You sighed, "Hey Caben."
"What are you doing here?" He asked, swinging his legs over the side of the bed and standing up.
"I'm staying here for the night, Toriel's a friend of mine." You replied, not letting him get too close.
He noticed you backing away and you saw immediate regret in his eyes, "Opal, I'm so sorry, what I did was unforgivable, I don't know what came over me I just....my new girlfriend dumped me and I guess I thought running back to you would fix everything."
You stared up at him, "I can see you and him are really in love, and I'm sorry I came between you two, I'm so sorry for all the trouble I've caused, what I've done is absolutely terrible." He continued, belting out apology after apology.
"Caben." You interupted, "I can't forgive you, but I know your a nice guy and it was just a spur of the moment thing." You kicked at the floor, feeling awkward, "I'm sorry, but I just can't forgive you."
Caben looked as sad as a human being could possibly be, "I understand." He whispered.
"Goodnight Caben." You said, glancing at him one more time before backing away, walking back into the hallway.
You wandered back to Frisk's room, expecting to see both Frisk and Asriel sound asleep, but Frisk was sitting up, shaking with tears streaming down her cheeks.
You were by her side with your arms around her in an instant, "Frisk? What's wrong?"
"I h-had a n-nightmare." She stuttered out, hugging you like her life depended on it.
"Don't worry, it was just a dream." You whispered, rubbing her back.
You two stayed in this position long before you realized Frisk had fallen back asleep, you smiled and pulled the covers over her, kissing her on the forehead.
"Goodnight Frisk."
