Chapter 7 - Psychology

Monday comes sooner than I hoped for.
I spring out of my bed and begin to dress my pale body in the uniform. I'm feeling giddy this morning, I can't wait to start my first day in my chosen Major and Minor. There is a frantic knock at my door.
I open the door and see my friends standing in the hallway. Their faces twisted in excitement.
"Come on Roxie!" Jasmine sings happily.
"Let me just get my books Girls!" I say with just as much excitement. I gather my things quickly, and rush out the door with a burst of frantic excitement.
"There's my Psycho girl." Stella says from behind. I smile.
The 5 of us walk to the academy and walk in through the main entrance.
Jasmine leaves down the left wing corridor, we all wish her luck.
The rest of us walk down the right wing corridor to our designated Major and Minor. Ms. Kaitlin greets us by the door, welcoming us.
"See you in a bit, love." Stella says. She walks off in the direction of the library.
Lilith, Erica and I walk in through the door. The room is filled with at least 200 vampires. All the new blood. Sitting right in the front is Rosemary and her fox faced minions.
She spots me and smirks at me, smugly.
I know well enough that she will be giving me hell. But I don't let it bother me. I continue my good mood.
"Welcome, New Bloods." Ms. Kaitlin introduces herself. "Welcome to Psychology and Dark Arts." She cheers excitedly.
We cheer, smile and high five.
"Now, what do you all say that we dive right into it?" Ms. Kaitlin asks all of us, enthusiastically.
"Yes!" We all cheer.
I see new faces that I missed in the beginning.
"Well, let us begin with the lobes and or parts of the brain." Ms. Kaitlin begins.
"Can anyone give me a part?" She asks all of us.
Many people raise their hands.
"Go ahead." She calls to a girl with dark red hair, so dark you'd mistake it for brown.
"Cerebellum." She says, her voice sweet in tone.
"Correct. That's one out of nine."
"Anyone else?"
"Frontal lobe?" A girl with a gruff voice calls out, I find her in the sea of females. Her hair is black like the midnight sky, her eyes are a deep blue. Making them seem almost close to black if you look at them a certain way. Her face sharp and angular.
"Very good!" Ms. Kaitlin praises.
"Two out of the Nine. Anyone else?"
"Optical lobes?" A girl with a salutary voice calls from the middle of the row. I can only see her hair, it is long and wavy and the colour of rich dark chocolate.
"Correct. Anybody else?" Ms. Kaitlin asks.
Everybody is silent.
"Well. That was a good go at trying. There are actually many parts of the brain, that connect with each other. But, we will focus on the 6 major parts of it. Such as...Lobes of the Brain, Motor Cortex and Somatosensory Cortex, The Brain Stem, The Limbic System, Cerebrum, and The Cerebellum. We will also delve into the other parts within the major parts. I know it seems very messy, but I promise, we will go slow." Ms. Kaitlin tells the class.
My head is already doing 360's and we have not even started an actual lesson. I never knew that the brain had so many parts too it. All I knew was there was a right hemisphere and a left hemisphere.
"The higher we go in level the more we will learn about impulses and what causes them." Ms. Kaitlin continues on.
The class groans.
"Hey, you all chose this course. I understand many of you probably picked this for the Dark Arts. But, Dark Arts does tie into learning about the brain. Because if you do not know how your brain works, then...you won't understand how to properly use your mind to manipulate the energy." Ms. Kaitlin explains.
It clicks in my mind and I now realize why the two are mashed up. Vampires are far more superior to humans when wrapping our minds around things. We go at a different approach and understand the way of the world differently. We see all the sides

Vampires are more skilled. Possibly because we are forever immortal.
Ms. Kaitlin hands out a small packet for us to get started on, which takes us to the end of class.
A signal goes off telling us it's our free period. We al stand and file out of the classroom.
"Please hand me your cerebral packets to me and we will continue next class." Ms. Kaitlin calls to us. We hand in our papers and leave. I am about to hand in mine when Rosemary shoves me out of the way.
"Whoops, didn't see you there, Dracula." She says with a tinge of snark in her shrill voice.
"No worries. Maybe you should just watch where you're going and you won't be so clumsy." I give the snarky attitude right back to her. She raises her chin, hands her packet in and leaves.
"Don't let her bother you Roxie." Ms. Kaitlin tells me in a reassuring voice.
"I won't." I smile. I place my paper on the desk corner and leave the room with Erica and Lilith.
"I hope she gets slew one day, if I am being honest with you all." Lilith says, snarling at the back side of Rosemary.
"Now, I wouldn't go putting death wishes on people." I say trying to calm Lilith's rage.
"Have you ever heard the saying: Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer?" Erica questions.
"I have.."
"Well, one day she will have what is coming to her. Karma is a beautiful thing Lilith...trust me on this." Erica says, patting Lilith's shoulder.
"Okay, I will conceal my rage and let Karma have her way." Lilith agrees with Erica. I smile, we are such an odd friend group but we all make it work. We walk into the front lobby of the Academy and wait for Jasmine. She walks down the hall, and you can already feel her ecstatic energy upon seeing us. She smiles brightly and waves. She quickens her pace and makes her way to the three of us. Other vampires bustle in and out through the traffic jam of the undead. The juniors and seniors going to their set classes. While use freshman stand awkwardly for a friend. Before long Jasmine greets us. "Hey guys!" She says excitedly happy to see us. "So how was your first day?" We all ask her.
"Excellent, I love it so much." She enthuses.
"Good, I am glad." I say with a grin.
We walk to the library together. My frozen heart quickens because I know Stella is going to be there.
"Calm yourself girl." Erica says, teasing me.
