Despite our punishment, Valerie continued to help out with the prom committee for the rest of the week.  Samantha said something about it looking good in a letter of recommendation.  It showed that while she had a blemish on her record by getting into a fight, she showed character by keeping her commitment.  And, Samantha added, in a small way, it made Valerie feel a little more human that she was helping the other girls have a magical night.

I told Samantha about Valerie’s “only human” comment to me.  She chuckled and said I should feel lucky the attack was only verbal.

Prom was next weekend and the two month mark since we were official was the Tuesday after.  I had reason not to worry so much about that little fact.  Valerie had shared with me her secret of being a Succubus.  And, I had protected her from the Hunter that night in the woods.  Still, that date loomed over me.  No one had ever been with Valerie past that two month mark.  And I had never been anything special- at least not in a good way.

I didn’t bother texting Valerie in the two days following Mr. Ramos’s ruling.  I wanted to give her some cool off time.  I had sent her a text Thursday morning and I received no response by lunch.  This probably meant I wouldn’t be receiving a response at all that day.

I wondered how long this would last.  We made out in her car last weekend before going to the party at the Wilson’s.  That meant she had a full two weeks before she had to talk to me.  Unless she found someone else to drain instead.

“So, what’s the reasonable time length to expect your girlfriend to shun you?” I asked Jack and Phil, wanting to get away from my thoughts.

“She hasn’t said anything to you since the AP’s office?”

I shook my head.

“You know, I made Becca mad once.  I mean really mad.  And it was a little more than a week before she spoke to me again.”

“Argh, I don’t want to go a week without her.”

“Oh, boo-hoo, a whole week without my girlfriend.  Jeez guys, can we talk about something else?” Jack complained.

“I don’t mind you telling me about your situation with Valerie, Miles.”

“Yeah, well I do,” Jack said.  “It seems like I’m the only one who’s strong enough to be single.”

I threw my pickle container at Jack, after making sure it was firmly closed.

“Quit being such a girl,” I teased.

“Hey, you throw pickles at me again and I’m gonna shove them down your face!”

He tossed them back mockingly.

A comfortable silence came over us until Jack said the most absurd thing I’d heard all year.

"You know, I'd make a really hot girl."

We all got a laugh out of that.  With replies like that, I’d have to be more careful with what I said to him.

“Yeah, I could totally see you as a brunette,” I added.

“Or a redhead,” Jack said.

"Yeah if you were a girl, I'd totally-" Rick started.

Jack and I both gave him a look.

"Too much?"

We nodded.

I realized how much I missed being with them.  There were so many days in the past two months that I sat here physically but my mind was on Valerie, rather she was sitting beside me or working on extracurricular activities.  I wondered if the guys could pick up on my distance sometimes.
