"yeah, no, not the flowers," dan pinches the bridge of his nose in slight frustration, because even though he has everything under control, and really there isn't that much to do as for once in his life he did all the work earlier ; with phil's wedding only a couple hours ago, he was feeling so, so unprepared.
"what? no, what the hell, phil hates balloons, don't put them on," dan scrunched his eyebrows slightly at the thought, not wanting their—phil and pj's—'wedding car' to be full of obnoxious balloons as they drove to the airport for the first time as husbands.
the thought sickens dan. he isn't sure which one, the look of disappointment on phil's face when he notices the inflated mess or the fact that phil and pj will actually be husbands after today, having a romantic time in france.
france.
"and it will be full of lights, and flowers and beautiful-"
"french men," dan interrupted and phil just scoffed, tightening his grip on dan's shoulders and pulling him closer.
"god dan, after japan, france is probably my favourite place," phil had said, his voice heavy with sleep and helplessness, because he wasn't sure when he will he able to visit the magical country, where everyone seemed to find love somewhere between red wines and cathedrals and sophesticated people wearing business suits. oh how phil wanted to find so much love in france, but only with one person, only with dan.
"one day," dan sighed, feeling helpless himself because there were just so many things phil deserved, so many things dan wanted to give to him. but right then all he could do was wrap his arms tighter around phil's waist, afraid that phil would get too lost in the thoughts of france.
"one day," phil had replied, shaking his head—a habit he had picked from dan—and turning in dan's arms to hold the younger boy closer, burying his nose in dan's soft hair, the faint smell of his shampoo almost saving phil from wanting to see all the flowers in france.
"one day phil, i promise i will take you to france," dan's promise held an emptiness, because they both knew neither of them would be actually able to afford two plane tickets to europe with their almost mediocre jobs. there wasn't much you could get out of an occasional weatherman and a part time editor or a procrastinating writer.
"gee thanks, dan," phil rolled his eyes, pressing his dry lips to dan's forehead softly in appreciation and dan pulled back just a little so he could frown at phil.
"hey, i'm serious," dan pouted and phil shook his head fondly at the boy in his arms, pressing another kiss on the tip of his nose and pulling dan back into his arms from where the brown haired boy had moved.
"i'm serious too, thank you," dan laid there with a hopeful smile on his face, for a moment just enjoying the way his cheek was pressed against phil's chest, the way phil's heart was beating in a constant rhythm, his breathing regulated and heavy and deep as if he was almost asleep.
"maybe i could take you there on our honeymoon, yeah?" dan had said after ten minutes of silence and he couldn't help but sigh out loud in disappointment when he noticed that phil had already fallen asleep.
dan shook his head again, trying to get out tangled limbs and heavy breathing and the soft smile on phil's face when dan held him closer.
he was on his second cup of coffee now, the liquid sliding down his throat in quick, unnoticeable gulps, almost replacing the oxygen in his lungs as he was drinking too fast. he put the cup back on the table, ending the call after the arrangements were made, checking off yet another thing from the things-to-do-at-the-very-end list.
