Chapter FOUR
_____________
I was starting to feel pathetic. Like really pathetic. I kept staring at him. Him being Colin.
As if that wasn't pathetic enough I felt sad and angry that he hasn't talk to me for the past three days. I mean Tuesday was nearly over and he never even glanced my way. Disappointment flooded through me when the final bell rang and I was still standing alone.
"Hey Kat." Spencer greeted me after a moment.
"Hey." I nodded to him and then back to my book.
"Are you ever not reading?" He laughed sitting beside me on the stair. I shook my head.
"I'm always reading, it makes life easier." I told him offhand while I continued to read. That's when I felt him. The hairs on the back of my neck prickled and the hair on my arm raised as the heat from his body radiated around me.
"Hey Spencer. Ready?" His rough voice sent a shiver down my spine and I finally looked up from the book to find his Brown eyes already staring at me. "Hey." He whispered.
"Hi." I managed in a whisper.
Spencer coughed loudly and Colin tore his eyes away from mine to look at his friend. "What?"
"Nothing, nothing." Spencer laughed getting to his feet as he grinned between us. "Nice to chat with you Kat. Hopefully you think about what I said."
I tilted my head in confusion as I looked at him and I noticed Colin doing the same but when he spoke his voice was clipped. "What did you say?"
"Nothing you'd be interested in bro." Spencer smirked, "Don't worry Kat and I are having a discussion that is only between the two of us."
Colin's eyes narrowed on his best friend and I stood up to leave. Shifting the bag over my shoulder Spencer caught my eye and gave me a wink.
Colin's growl was low as it escaped his lips and Spencer only laughed. I shook my head and began my walk home. I didn't know what was happening but I knew that I didn't like it. Leaving seemed to be the best and only option.
In my room I laid down on the bed and groaned when my phone rang in my pocket. I was over today. I was drained from worrying about Colin all day, worrying that he was never going to speak to me again. Which makes me pathetic, look at that, we've gone full circle.
"Hi." I mumbled into the receiver.
"Where are you?" Chris' voice asked from the other end.
"I got tired of waiting and walked home."
"Oh." His voice turned to one of sadness, "I'm sorry Kat. I didn't realize I was taking that long."
"It's fine Chris." I shook my head as I bit my lip and continued. "You have friends, it's okay to talk to them after school. I don't mind walking."
Chris let out an exasperated sigh, "You're too nice for your own good Kat."
"Um Thanks." I mumbled into the phone.
"I'll be home soon."
He hung up and I let out a sigh. Why was I acting like this? It was normal for me to be so upset over one guy...Well unless you count him. But he had hurt me, so much and Colin just wasn't talking to me.
"Kat," My mother spoke as she opened the door to my room, "I just bought the tickets to visit New York. Everything is all set."
"Really?" I asked, sitting up on my bed. I was excited to actually be doing something that could take my mind off of Colin. New York would be the perfect distraction.
