Chapter THIRTY ONE

I tapped my pencil on my jeans as I watched the time tick away. Colin was waiting for me but I was stuck in this stupid room, doing this stupid test.
My mind kept replaying yesterday and how perfect everything had been, Colin and I hand in hand exploring the city. The elation I'd felt from him holding my hand like he was protecting me from the world. I missed him desperately in this moment.
Quickly writing down the answers to the last few questions I stood and made my way out of the door. As soon as I stepped outside I had my phone in hand and was already dialing his number.
"I'm on my way." He told me and I could hear the happiness in his voice.
As I walked down the hall I couldn't help but smile at the fact that he was here in New York City, with me. And he hasn't once complained about the noise or the people. He was happy here, just like I was.
Standing outside the building I looked around and waited for him. He was happy here, wasn't he? Doubt started to form in my head as I thought about what he must be feeling, trapped in a cage with no room to breathe.
"Hey there." His voice sent tingles around me and set my heart into a flutter as I focused on his face. My new revelation still in my mind as he grinned down at me.
"Hey," I whispered, my grin wanting to match his.
"What wrong?" he asked, grabbing my arm in a way to comfort me as well as to shield me from everyone else.
"Nothing." I shook my head but his eyes narrowed slightly and I sighed looking down at my shoes before I brought them back up to meet his.
"You're scaring me, Kitty." His voice giving off his vulnerability. Pain flicked across his eyes and my heart clenched at what he could have been thinking.
"No." I shook my head, "I'm not.." I sighed and tried to explain a different way. "I was worried that you weren't happy here."
Relief washed over him and his shoulders relaxed, his familiar smile back in place. "Of course I'm happy, how could I not be when I'm with you?"
"But your wolf," I mumbled in disbelief, a blush rising up to my cheeks.
"It's fine, honestly I like it here and you love it here so don't worry." He leaned down and placed a kiss on my lips. "How was the test smarty pants? All the studying yesterday pay off?"
"It was a piece of cake." I shrugged as I reached for his hand. He laughed and laced his fingers with mine.
"We go home tomorrow, so you can let your wolf out in less than 24 hours," I told him confidently.
His eyes shone slightly and I could see the relief, the happiness that flickered across his face at my words. He was happy to leave here, no matter what he said I could tell that he wasn't content here.
"Come on." He smiled, "Let's go watch a movie."
I nodded and leaned into his side as he lead me through the crowded sidewalk back to my dorm. We snuggled together on my twin bed and watched some movie that I couldn't focus on, too caught up in the feeling of him pressed against me.
"Are you excited to go back to high school?" Colin asked as the credits began rolling on screen. "After all this, that's got to be a step-down."
"I get to hang out with you all day, that's all I want." I told him truthfully, "Plus, I'll be with my family again."
