Its been a few months since I found my dragon- which I decided to name Toothless; after I found out he had retractable teeth. He's around the size of a sheep at the moment.
Snotlout did find a Monstrous Nightmare, and he named it Hook Fang- and HookFang is already twice the size of Toothless!
Astrid brought a Deadly Nadder back, and named her Stormfly; she's around the same size as Toothless, but just taller since she stands on her hind legs, because of her lack of frontal limbs.
The twins kept fighting over a Zippleback, so Gobber told them that they each get a head- they named their heads Barf and Belch; how pleasant, but what else do you expect from the twins?
And finally, Fishlegs brought a Gronkle, who sleeps almost every hour of the day. He's obsessed with Fishlegs- and he named him Meatlug.. but there's one thing he hasn't realized yet- Meatlug is a girl. And yes- I could have easily told him, but with me being, well, me; I'm not going to talk to him.
Gobber and I try to decipher daily what kind of dragon Toothless is, but our conclusion just keeps getting tangled up between thousands of kinds of dragons when it comes to his appearance and abilities. Gobber says from what he has seen, he'll only grow to around three quarters of the size of Hookfang, and that might be a bad thing when it comes time to be chief, because usually the chiefs with the largest and strongest of dragons are respected.
Today is one of our first dragon training lessons. For the last few months all we have been learning about was how to handle dragons- but I already knew all of it. I had to act dumb, in front of my peers and Gobber, because if they found out that I have been studying dragons for over three years on my own, I would probably be the worst kid on Berk. No child under the age of fifteen is allowed to study, hunt, play, or interact with any wild dragon of any sorts- no matter the cost. That's what dragon training is for.
Today was all about fire, and aim.
"Yo're dragons 'robably have been spitting little fire balls all ov'r the place, around ye huts, the village- everywhere." Gobber paused and picked up his demonstration dragon- which is a Terrible Terror, "Today, your dragon will have th' chance to shoot at targets, an' t' use a full powered fire shot."
He pointed to some barrels which had painted targets in red and white on them. They were lined up in front of the wall, one for each dragon. Gobber had a couple behind him for when it came time to show him what we had learned during our practice time.
After speaking the rules of what to do and what not to do, we were allowed to pick a target, and shoot at it- until our dragon's shot limit was up, or until the barrel was lit in flames.
Toothless looked at me with a concerned face.
"I know you don't want to do this- but you have to, if you don't I am going to fail dragon training!" I reasoned with him- or well, I tried.
"Thats fine with me- whats so important about it anyways? I wanna be free and fly around, not near this heap-of-wet-rocks island." He turned his back to me.
"The only way Gobber is going to let you fly is if you do this- until then you're 'grounded'."
"Im a dragon- I shouldn't have rules on where to go and what to do.."
