The Capitol games

Chapter 5

I wake up to bright sunlight and an annoying Effie pounding on my door and basically screaming. "Today's going to be a big, big, big day!" Damn I wouldn't mind killing this women. I will add her to my list of people I want dead, which only includes the girl on fire herself. That reminds me she and another victor named Johanna Mason are running training today. Basically they stand around and tell us 'helpful' strategies and hints. They give us lessons in their preferred weapons which would be a bow and arrow and an axe. I put on my training outfit which consists of a HIDEOUS black and orange jumpsuit and old black boots. Seriously what is wrong with these people. I tie my hair up in a ponytail. I go down for breakfast and see a few others in a matching outfit to mine. I sit down and eat toast, eggs and salad.  After breakfast Effie escorts us to the training centre. It's a short trip down an elevator to the centre. The doors open and we walk out. There were around eight people who skipped breakfast. One girl in particular catches my eye. She has unattractive yellow hair and a heart tattooed on her cheek. She looks nice yet mean at the same time and I know she means business. I walk over to her. "Hi my name is Cora." She smiles at me. "My name is Amity." I offer her a hand and she shakes it. "Who is your mentor?" I ask her and her face darkens. "I got Haymitch. He's terrible and annoying. I wish I got anyone else but him." I didn't want Haymitch since he is pretty bad. "Well I got Katniss Everdeen. I hate her. She's the reason we are here." Amity nods along. "I know right she is the worst but it must be harder for you since you look like her sister." Finally someone understands me. I really like Amity so I decided to ask the question that's been bobbing around in my head since I saw her. "Hey you want to be ally's?" She smiles and nods. "I would love too. Together we can win and make sure Katniss pays." She says with determination in her eyes. I already know I will be good friends with this girl. The announcement is put on that we can start training. We go over to the poisonous plant station since I have seen many people die from eating bad food. I remember most of the names and looks but the ones that look similar confuse me. Unlike me, Amity learns them off by heart. "How did you learn so quickly?" I ask her which she returns with a shrug. "Hey don't be so excited I'm rubbish at everything else." I laugh and pull her over to the camouflage station. It's pretty boring so after a while of learning the basics we head off. "Hey let's go to the archery station and we can see how bad Katniss is." Amity suggests and I agree. Right now Katniss is teaching a 18 year old boy how to properly hold the bow and arrow. He's failing miserably and you can see Katniss is getting frustrated. Katniss looks up and sees us. She gives us a smile, which makes me roll my eyes, and she tells the boy that he should move onto another station. "Hey girls. You want to learn how to shoot?" She asks us which makes me scoff. "No we wanted to come over here and learn how to tie our shoes." I say sarcastically to her. She glares and folds her arms. "Well you've come to the wrong place then. The knot tying place is over there." She indicates to the station and I glare at her. She smiles and picks up three bows. She shows us how to hold them and how to place the arrow correctly. We pick it up pretty quickly but then comes the hard part. Actually shooting the targets. They aren't that far away since our standards aren't very high. I prepare myself and focus on the centre of the target. I let the string go at the same time as Amity. My arrow only went about 20 cm from where I'm standing and Amity's somehow went behind her. Katniss tries to give us a reassuring smile but fails. "It's ok try again." She collects the arrows and returns them. We try again and my arrow goes a little further but still not fast enough or far enough to kill someone. Amity managed to get hers forwards this time but her aim was off. "This is impossible!" I exclaim in frustration and throw my bow on the ground. "No it's not you have to keep trying." Katniss says and picks up my bow. "Oh yeah if it's so easy why don't you do it?" Amity sasses Katniss. Katniss snaps around and stares at her. "You know what, fine I'll show you how easy it is." She walks over and grabs a handful of bows. She walks over and stands in front of the target. I hear someone whisper shout, "Look she's doing archery." I turn around and see that everyone has stopped what they're doing and are looking at Katniss. Johanna is also smirking and laughing. "Oh you should have done that." She yells out to us. Katniss pulls back her arrow and releases it. It hits the target in the bullseye. Most people clap but she's not finished. She walks backwards so she is further away. She then releases the arrow and once again it hits the target in the centre. There is even more claps and Amity frowns. "Johanna." She nods at her and Johanna picks up some fake bird things and throws them up. Katniss, with ease, hits them all in the eye. They fall down at once, leaving everyone shocked. She turns around and smirks at Amity. She then places the arrow down and walks out but not before giving a very amused Johanna a high-five. I knew she was good at archery but not this good. Amity has a sour look on her face and grumbles. "I officially hate that girl!"
