As I realize what she has just said to me, I look at her as if she has gone completely crazy just in case she is trying to trick me into something. "There is no way in hell that you know who I am. I have never been to this clearing and I have never seen you before in my life."
She glares at me and replies, "Obviously but, as I look into your eyes I feel a sense of protection and a little bit of love and compassion. Who are you?"
I stare at her blankly trying to figure out what to say to this young girl. I slowly back up. She asks me one again, "Who are you?"
I stop backing up and think to myself What if she really is my sister. What if I have finally found her and I can tell her who I am. We cant have the same father so we must have the same mother. I have to be sure. I finally say to the young girl, "What is your name?"
She looks at me like I'm crazy, "First tell me your name and then I will state mine for you have entered my domain. I have not entered yours." She answers very sternly.
"Fair enough. My name is Damion. I am a demon and I have been alive for 18 centuries waiting for a purpose to be on this world and then I get the strangest feeling that my very own sister was born. So I began searching."
"My name is Bear. I was abandoned here in this clearing 15 years ago. These wolves have helped me with getting food, water and they have protected me from the dangers of these woods."
"This may sound strange what I am about to tell you."
She looks at me strangely for a few seconds than after realizing she may be in no danger and if she was the wolves would have attacked me by now and she answers, "What could possibly be anymore weird knowing that others of my kind are alive?"
"I am your brother." As I say that short sentence I see her face drain of color.
"W-what? W-what a-are you s-saying?"
"I'm saying that after being alive for so long I finally have found the reason why I was put on this Earth. It was to find you and protect you for you are family and I was born to protect one of my own blood."
"Damion you speak in such a strange tongue. Why?"
"I have been alive for many of centuries and I have found that this way of speaking is the way I am most comfortable with."
"I still don't understand. How are you my brother if you are so old and your parents have been dead for years?"
"Ah, now you see young one, your mother is my mother and she is immortal also."
"Than why did she leave me here?"
"Because, she had no other choice. She couldn't have a repeat if me."
"What did you do?"
"I killed my own mortal father. That is how I am immortal. Our mother did not want you to face the same fate I did."
"You mean to tell me that I am just a cast away?"
"Technically speaking, yes you are."
"What are you saying? That my parents could just care less for me so that they just left me here to die and I just happen to stay alive?!"
"Bear no that's not-" I was cut off by a large crash in the forest.
"W-what was that?" Bear asks with her voice a little shaky and I can tell she is very frightened.
"Don't worry I will protect you." I reply trying to calm her down.
As I get up I hear another large sound, closer this time. I creep towards the edge of the clearing and listen into the darkness when a large man tackles me down and pins me to the ground. As I struggle to get out of his grasp Bear is standing off to the side more frightened than she has ever been in her life, so I presume. The man has enormous amounts of strength and keeps me to the ground. When I finally look into his eyes I realize he is another demon. This demon although very strong and yet very unknowing of his target and I could tell his target was me. His master obviously did not give him enough information about me because the man had me by the upper part of my shoulder. When I realize the man had me by the upper part of my shoulder I quickly took action and slipped from his grasp and pinned him to the ground on his stomach with his arm pinned behind his back. The man tries to struggle free but, doesn't realize the struggling is doing more damage to him than I intended it to. This man has finally realized he has been defeated and stops struggling for he knew he would surly die soon. A small dagger the size of my forearm materializes in my hand. The man tries to throw me off realizing that I am truly going to kill him in the worst possible way a demon could be killed, pinned down and stabbed in the back once without putting up a fight. "And so you have met your fate you dumb assassin. Any last words before I plunge this dagger in between your shoulder blades fatally wounding you without any means of being able to heal?"
"This was truly a stupid idea that my master would send me of all people to try and kill you for you are very, very skilled in combat" The man replies with no sense of fear in his voice anywhere.
"I am skilled in combat because I have fought many a monsters before encountering you. To where I stand, I am a senior in the means of combat to you, a small apprentice only here because your master knew you would die trying to kill me." I plunge the dagger into the mans back and burning his body so all that was left of the man as a pile of ash that blew away in the wind.
"Why did he attack you?" Bear asks with much fear in her voice.
"Because his master was done with him. His master put him on a quest he knew the man would not succeed at meaning the man was going to die no matter what."
Bear stands still in the low light of the day. I was standing there wondering what was going through her head. I was wondering if she even truly trusted me or she just went along with it because I'm family. I will never know because I will never ask her unless I truly need to know if she trusts me. But also in retrospect she will show me in time if she trusts me or not. At that moment the sun was going down and I looked at Bear wondering if she would let me inside her house to stay the night. "Bear, may I stay the night? If you really are worried about it I will be gone before you even wake up. I just need a little rest, and somewhere comfortable to rest."
Bear looks at me a little concerned than she finally answers, "You may stay the night. Also I don't mind you staying in my house. You may have saved me from dying today and for that I am more than happy to let you stay here as long as you would like."
I smile at Bear knowing that she shows a small bit of trust but still not enough.
When we enter her house I look around and notice a lot of books on magic and enchantments. Many of books in which I have read in my travels. I have studied dark magic and something tells me Bear senses that and looking around I do believe that she has been studying light magic. To protect her land and hide it from oncoming travelers. "Where will I be sleeping tonight?"
"I have a guest bedroom down the hall and to the left. Make yourself at home Damion." She answers with such pride and joy in her voice it almost seems to good to be true that she really trusts me. I may not be able to trust her just yet but is my duty to protect her at all costs. Even if it means living in a small, rugged, beat down cottage.
