Me: 'Who is this?'
I placed my phone on the corner of my desk. I figured the chances of my teacher seeing it from the angle she was in was probably slim to none, so I patiently waited for the stranger to text me back.
786-256-7085: 'Alexander.' The text confirmed a minute later.
Damn! He knows I'm reading about him? Oh, no! Oh, no, no, no! He's not supposed to think I care at all!
I didn't text back. I needed the advantage again, so I would give him silence and make him beg to talk to me. Also, like what the hell was I supposed to say to him?
After five minutes, I got the intended results.
786-256-7085: 'Don't be embarrassed. Everyone gets curious and reads up on me @ some point. Ur a little l8 in the game tho.'
I waited a couple of seconds as I tossed around the thought of ignoring him again. To text or not to text – that was the question. If I didn't text he'd think I was just too embarrassed to talk to him and that he was right. If I did text, how would I do it without being awkward? Finally, I decided.
Me: What makes u think I'm reading about you?
The minute it took for him to respond made him look a little desperate. It gave me hope that winning him over might not be so difficult.
786-256-7085: Kristen's infamous binder about me? U can see those sparkly letters with my name on it from Space. Every1 has read it. Even me. My fav part is where she says I'm so hot I make people melt or something? Lol
I didn't answer out of the mere mortification that I had after realizing that everyone in this room knew that I was reading about Alexander. I couldn't remember another time when I had felt so utterly humiliated (when Nata did it I was wounded and hurt, now was different because I wasn't wounded – I just wanted to crawl into a corner or erase everyone in the classroom's memories) I immediately shoved the binder to the floor and looked at it in disgust. The sound it made when it contacted the floor didn't startle anyone but I'm positive I heard Alexander laugh.
Kristen looked down and up at me in confusion. I looked back at her as if her face was the sole reason I was about to throw up. Just as I felt the food coming up, my phone vibrated.
786-256-7085: Is that why u looked sick outside? Cuz I made u feel like u were gonna melt?
Oh my god, this guy is crazy! I thought. What a cocky jerk!
786-256-7085: You there? Or has my texting you caused you to faint???
Me: Is this a joke
786-256-7085: LOL.
I felt no need to respond. After a minute or two he looked back at me and texted,
786-256-7085: ????
Me: what do you want
786-256-7085: I asked you a question. Why haven't you answered?
Me: Cuz I have a general policy not to talk to douchebags & cuz ur not worth talking to.
