"Hey hey hey Atiana guess what?" Sofia says first thing as she walks into my room Sunday morning. I look up from my laptop where I'm debating whether to watch a movie or start a new tv series.

"What is it?"

"That's not guessing but I'll tell you anyways. There's a new guy in our grade. I heard from Madison who heard from Cloe who heard from Isla who heard from Sara-" she rambled.

"Hold up. This news passed through so many people. How do you know it's legit?"

"Well...if you let me finish. Sara heard from Vivian who had seen him with Kimber and Paris."

"Hah. If Kimber, Paris, and Vivian have started talking to him boy's a goner." I laugh. Kimber Trod rules the school along with her friends Paris Fernandez and Vivian Markson. They're not too bad unless you mess with them. Relationship wise Kimber has a new boy on her arm every few weeks. Paris has an on and off relationship with her boyfriend Anthony. Vivian isn't with anyone and she doesn't mind. She's just content knowing that at the snap of her fingers boys will start lining up.

"But...Alana was there and she said he ignored them and walked away." We both immediately started laughing. When was the last time they got rejected? Boys literally will pay just to walk them to their classes. Last week, Brad Perry, paid Kim $30, just to walk her from class to the cafeteria. They walked into the cafeteria arm in arm, Brad grinning and giving thumbs up to his friends. Kim couldn't care less, it's just an extra $30 for her. I mean girl, you do you.

"Hey want to go shopping with me?" Sofia proposes.

"Possibly, but is free food included in this deal?"

She smiles and shakes her head, "Yes, if you come I will buy you food."

"Sold." I smile at her. Oh how I love Sofia Ren. "I'll be out in like 10 minutes." I put on ripped jeans, a white crop top, a ripped denim jacket, and let my wavy hair fall loosely. I slip on some sneakers and go downstairs to see my mom in front of the tv.

"Sofia's waiting for you in her car." My mom says looking up at me.

"Okay, thanks mom, see you later." I walk out to Sofia's car and get inside and connect my phone to her car to play my music. We sing along with the songs until we get to the mall. Of course right as we pull in Let It Go by James Bay starts playing and we can't help but finish the song in the parking lot.

We walk throughout the mall and buy some clothes for the new school year. By around 1pm we both start getting hungry and make our way to the food court. Sofia goes to buy our food and I find us a table. As I look around my eyes land on Adrian and Elliot walking and laughing together. I smile at their friendship, they seem to be really close. Adrian makes eye contact with me and gives a small wave. Which is surprising as we have only talked a few times. I look over at Elliot and he gives a small smile which I return before he goes back to his conversation. I turn around to see Sofia scanning the area looking for me. I call her name and wave for her to come over.

"That line was so long and the lady in front of me kept changing her order." Sofia says as she plops the trays down in front of us. I smile at her, Sofia is my closest friend of all time. We met in fifth grade when she transferred schools. She noticed that I did not really have many friends so she sat with me at lunch. I had a cookie and she had a very nice brownie. That swap was the start of our beautiful friendship.

"Thanks for buying me food, bestfrand." I say, unwrapping my burger.

"It's my job to make sure you're fed," she grins, "we don't want the beast to be unleashed." She says before taking a bite of her burrito.

"You're hilarious. You should go into comedy, " I remark sarcastically, "are you ready for school to start up?" I grab a some fries and take a sip of my drink, looking at her.

"I'm excited for school. I'm actually kind of bored of not really doing much and not seeing everyone. I feel like I'm going to regret saying that after school starts." I nod in agreement.
I look around at my surroundings and look up at Sofia to see her staring behind me.
"Oh my goodness...Firstly, there's a really attractive guy with Adrian and he's getting mauled by girls. However, he looks ten shades of irritated."
I turn my head to see Elliot with girls running their claws over his arms. Suddenly, his bright green eyes lock onto me and his face morphs into one of urgency. Please help me, he mouths. I sigh and get up, walking over to him. I hear Sofia behind me asking me where I'm going.
As I approach the cluster, some girls glare at me and others are too busy fawning over Elliot. The boy in question however, his eyes hadn't left mine. I wink, a look showing I got this, and eagerly told the girls,
"Girls, guess what? Victoria's Secret is having a flash sale where everything is 50% off! Starbucks is also giving away free drinks of your choice to the first 20 people in line!" The girls start screaming excitedly and run off. I feel bad for the employees that will have to deal with them.

Elliot shoots a grateful smile my way, "Thanks a million Atiana, I owe you."

"I'll remember to keep that in mind. I have a question though, where did Adrian go - "

From around the corner, I see Jared walk out of a nearby store. "Thank goodness, they finally left.", he turns to Elliot apologetically, "Sorry man..I deal with this everyday at school. I honestly needed a break."

I decide to go back to Sofia. She's still sitting at the table, laughing at her phone.

"I got that all on snapchat, man girls are really annoying sometimes." Sofia says to me.

After we finish up we decide it's time to leave. Once we arrive back at my place, I say goodbye to Sofia and wave from my doorstep as she drives off. When I enter the house, my parents are watching White House Down. They ask me if I would like to join them but I decline and go to my room. I send a text to Sofia, telling her to text me when she gets home. After I send the text, I change into an old shirt and loose shorts before getting into bed. Tomorrow will be my last first day of high school. Kind of bittersweet. I wonder if I'll actually miss high school when I graduate.

I go to sleep that night praying that my senior year will be the best and least problematic one yet.
