When Castiel managed to catch up to his younger brother, who was busy rummaging in the drawers of his desk, the prince panted to catch a breath, just then realizing that his stamina was actually not very high.
"Gabriel," he managed to gasp, resting against the doorway.
The boy jerked up, closing a drawer as he stood up. "Cassy, I didn't see you. Are you alright?"
Castiel nodded, feeling sweat sticking uncomfortably to his clothing on the small of his back, but he managed to finally breathe normally after a few moments. "I was running after you, where have you been all day?"
"Oh, outside," Gabriel quickly answered. His eyes brightened all of the sudden, and he reached down behind his desk and pulled out a French horn. "Look! I managed to convince the conductor to lend me one to use yesterday afternoon!"
"How did you manage to do that? He's always so moody, and we peeve him especially." Castiel walked toward the desk, noticing how Gabriel's eyes seemed to gleam brighter as he looked down at the instrument.
"Well, it's nothing, I just owe him a certain favor," the younger chuckled somewhat nervously.
"A favor?" Castiel questioned.
What could that grump want of Gabriel?
"Yeah. I have to perform with the other musicians in his orchestra in two months. Raphael thought it would be good for discipline, playing with others in front of a large crowd..." A look of fear passed Gabriel's face before he chuckled falsely, "I've been practicing all day."
He didn't like seeing Gabriel so afraid, knowing how naturally carefree and wild the boy was. "You're worried?" He asked, a hand on the younger prince's shoulder.
"I'm not!" Gabriel immediately protested. "I just...want to make sure I play well. I don't want to make a fool out of myself in my first performance. But I still need to get used to performing in front of others."
"From what you've told me, you've only been playing for today. It'll take time to gain skill," Castiel advised. "You don't have to practice all day, but you should try at least once a day to keep it up. I'm sure you won't embarrass yourself when the time comes. You'll become talented at the horn given time."
Gabriel looked up at Castiel from his short stature, an unusual, un-Gabriel-like look of nervousness in his eyes. "I hope so."
Castiel gave his brother a smile and embraced him warmly and shortly before letting go and sighing. "I haven't see you all day. What are we, cousins?"
Gabriel let out a small laugh. "Sorry, I've been...busy..."
"Yes, doing that thing you cannot tell me about for some reason," Castiel continued, noticing the flash of guilt on Gabriel's face. "I've missed you, so has Anna. And she's saved for you some sweets, by the way."
"Really?" Gabriel grinned, looking as if his problems had all disappeared from the face of the earth.
"Yes," Castiel laughed. "You need to learn to manage your time better so we can all talk. She's only visiting for this bride business, once that's over she'll probably go back home."
Gabriel shuffled his feet. "Sorry. I will."
"You're doing well, though?" Castiel couldn't help but ask, and Gabriel nodded with a smile. "Alright. Head off to bed. It's late, and you don't want to waste daylight trying to catch up on your sleep."
