*Four years later*
Third person POVThe beginning notes of Turning Pages by Sleeping At Last, flowed through the air, and everyone stood up. They all were here to celebrate the greatest day for two young men. Jack Bates fiddled nervously with his tux, but immediately stopped when he saw his beautiful boyfriend, no, fiancé enter the aisle.
Nate Manson let out a soft gasp as he laid eyes on his soon to be husband. To him, there was no one more beautiful than Jack. They'd been through so much together, and now, they would always be with each other.
His heart pounded wildly in his chest, and he felt like he might pass out. No, he was going to do this. He looked at his dad, who nodded at him. Taking a deep breath, he took his first step. He could feel everyone's eyes on him; everyone watching and he couldn't afford to mess this up.
It took forever to reach where Jack stood, and Nate couldn't help but reflect the smile on his handsome face. He listened to the priest, but just barely. All of his attention was on Jack.
It had seemed like a dream when Jack had proposed. Less than a year ago, Nate remembers when Jack got down on one knee and proposed. It had been on the beach in California, just after a pretty hectic day at ComicCon. The sun had been setting, and Jack had looked so cute in his Spock outfit.
Of course, Nate had said yes. He only wished his mother were here to see it. She would have loved to see him walk down the aisle to the man he loved. She would have loved to plan his wedding out.
Finally, it was time for vows. Nate was going first, and he gulped as he tried to remember his speech.
"Today, I promise you this: I will laugh with you in times of joy, and comfort you in times of sorrow. I will share in your dreams and support you as you strive to achieve your goals. I will listen to you with compassion and understanding, and speak to you with encouragement. Together, let us build a home filled with learning, laughter, and light, shared freely with all who may live there. Let us be partners, friends and lovers, today and all of the days that follow."
Jack had tears in his eyes, and he laughed softly as he wiped away a stray tear. It took him a moment to start his own vows.
"I choose you. To stand by your side and sleep in your arms. To be the joy to your heart and food for your soul. To learn with you and grow with you, even as time and life change us both. I promise to laugh with you in good times and struggle alongside you in bad times. I promise to respect you and cherish you as an individual, a partner, and an equal, knowing that we do not complete, but complement each other. May we have many adventures and grow old together.
"You may now kiss the groom!"
Nate leaned in and locked lips with Jack. Even though they'd been together for so long, Nate never got used to how his lips were so soft and plush and his to kiss. There was no better heaven than this.
Nate had to admit that it had been hard for the first year and a half after he lost his mother. What with going to college and not being able to tell her the wonderful things that had happened. And he couldn't have done it without Jack.
Jack. Beautiful, strong Jack. There wasn't anything about Jack that Nate didn't like...except maybe his snoring.
As they danced together to their first song as a married couple, Nate and Jack gazed at each other as if they were seeing each other for the first time. Tonight, they would make sweet love to each other, kiss each other lazily as they lay tangled up in the sheets. They will laugh together, cry together, and love together.
Everything was perfect, just as it should be. So, yeah, he was a jock, and yeah, maybe he was a nerd. Yet destiny had it out for them. As our journey together ends, their lives begin to flourish, with several new chapters to come in their life.
Together. Forever. Can I make it any more obvious?
