BEEP!  BEEP!  BEEP! Elie reached out an arm and smacked his alarm clock.  His eyes opened a tiny crack,  half-expecting to see his room back home.  Instead, he was met with a view of the ocean floor and the most colorful school of fish he had ever seen.  Suddenly far more awake,  Elie sat up with excitement.  "Today's the first day of school!" He yelled. Elie hustled out of bed to get ready. In minutes, he went from sleepy bedhead to prepped and ready to go. Straightening the tie on his uniform, Elie grabbed his bag and left. Using the map he was given,  Elie made it to his first class just in time.  Being the last one to arrive seemed to be a theme with him.  Luckily for Elie,  the class already had assigned seats, so he didn't have to worry about finding a place to sit. Throughout the day,  Elie found that most of his classes had assigned seats.  He was especially thrilled with his seat in 3rd period Language Arts.  It was a window seat with an incredible view of the ocean. He could sit and stare at the ocean all day if allowed.  The ocean had always had a calming effect on Elie. It was where he went whenever he needed time to think.

It wasn't just the placement of his seat that made 3rd period one of Elie's favorite classes. His neighbors were both friendly and,  on top of that, they were in his primary class. The boy,  to his right, introduced himself as Luke, a chick magnet in the making. Elie didn't question his flamboyant behavior. For an awkward high school freshman, Luke was pretty attractive. With short,  dirty-blonde hair,  astonishing green eyes,  and a slightly muscular build, Elie could already see Luke's future fan-girl squad. The equally attractive,  if not more, girl on his left had coral pink hair that fell down a little past her shoulders and sparkling amber eyes. Her name was Leila. Her bubbly personality quickly broke the ice and made Elie feel at ease. The only not-so-great part about 3rd period was Demetri. Sure he was easy on the eyes,  but along with his stylish brown hair, tan skin,  and athletic build came a complete tool of a personality. It only took him about 10 minutes to hit on just about every girl in the class,  including Leila. "Have your eyes always been such a fiery hue, because I think they're melting my heart," he had said. Such a cheesy pick up line had Elie's blood boiling until Leila cleverly responded with, "Chill Romeo, they're only colored contacts." That remark had the whole class snickering. Demetri went back to his seat muttering about how girls were no fun. The rest of Elie's day was pretty uneventful, that is, until his primary class.
