As the crown prince of the Kou empire, it is expected for Kouen to have a fiancè at the same status of himself. So it is not surprising for the people to know that he was engaged to a princess from another country. The surprising thing is that Kouen was engaged not for political, but because he actually loved his fiancè.
Sera is the crown princess in her country, long wavy brown hair that reached her waist was usually tied in a complicated braid, blue eyes the color of turquoise, and skin that was pale, but not a sick pale.
Since birth, she has been groomed to be the ideal princess and bride, she learned the manner fit for a princess, how to read, how to write, and how to engage in a formal conversation. Her parents were demanding but that doesn't mean that her parents didn't love her less than any other parents would their child.
Even though she was a female, something that people used to look as tool for breeding, her parents believed in gender equality and wanted their daughter to have a happy life. So, when the crown prince of Kou came and asked for their daughter's hand in marriage, they were shocked, but accept nonetheless. Their daughter seemed happy with the prince, and it also gained their country possible allies.
Since they were engaged, Sera had been living in Kou, she shared a different room from Kouen, though their room was beside each other.
"What are you doing, dear?"
Kouen looked up from the piles of paperwork he was doing, to see his fiancè on the door, her long hair was tied in a low ponytail and draped over a shoulder, she wears her usual dress, but she leaves the accesories she usually wear.
"Paperwork." Was the reply that her fiancè gave her.
She smiled gently, then walked until she reached him. "You should rest. It's already dark outside." She said.
Kouen doesn't reply, he merely glanced at her, then went back to his paperwork. Sera sighed, knowing how stubborn her fiancè can be, she walked outside his room and into the kitchen to made some tea. If he didn't want to rest, she might as well bring some tea for him.
When she returned, a tray with a pot of tea and two empty cup on her hand, she sets the tea tray on her fiancè's table, then pour some tea into the cup, "You should atleast drink something. I'll stay here with you.", she then hands him the cup filled with warm tea.
Kouen grunts, but accept the tea nonetheless. After a sip, he went back to his work. Sera watched him work while reading a book that she found in his room. After some time, her eyes felt heavy, and she had to hide a yawn from coming out. And yet, she still stubbornly wanted to wait for Kouen.
The fact that Sera was sleepy didn't escaped Kouen's attentions, he turned to look at her and said, "ou should sleep. You're not used to staying up late." Sera smiled sleepily but shook her head, "It's alright. I wanted to wait for you."
"Why must you be so stubborn?" "It's fine. Besides, it reminds me of how we first met."
Sera and Kouen met around three years ago, when Sera was on a trip to help her parents make an alliance with a small kingdom. At that time, Kouen was out with his brother to study a field that could possibly be used to gain advantage at a war.
Sera and a small amount but trained bodyguards, stayed at an inn. When Sera was out walking, she saw Kouen and his brother, Koumei, fighting against a group of asassin, usually, asassins were not a problem for Kouen and Koumei to handle, but, the fact that it was dark and they were at their own teritorry, made them let their guard down, and got attacked.
Once they realized they were attacked, they immediatly fought back and easily defeated the group of asassin, but not before one of them stabbed Kouen in the stomach.
When Sera passed by and saw that Kouen was injured, she, without knowing who he was, dragged Kouen with the help of Koumei, who was only scratched, to the inn that she was staying. After laying him on a bed and addressing his wound, Kouen woked up, to see his brother sitting at a chair, while a woman,(he didn't knew who Sera was) was preparing tea.
"Oh, you're awake"
Koumei explained the situation to Kouen, while Sera redressed his bandages and helped him sit up.
"I'll leave him in your care then, I have to contact the Emperor to inform that we will be late." Koumei then left.
"I'm Sera, I suggest that you eat, then rest. Your wound is not serious, you should be fine soon." She gave him a tray of food then sat on the chair that Koumei once sat.
Kouen gave a nod, then ate the food. In the middle of his eating, he saw Sera yawn, then said, "You should sleep, I don't need you staying up late to wait for me to finish eating". Sera looked at him and said, "It's fine. I'll wait for you. What if you dropped something?, or what if you need some drink?"
"I can take it myself" "You're injured"
At the end, Sera fell asleep on the chair, while Kouen ate his food while watching the girl.
"Now that I think about it, you didn't change. Still not wanting people to worry about you." "And you're still so stubborn".
Sera giggled, then yawned. Her cup of tea had long been empty. "I guess I should sleep, it is getting late."
When Sera gets up, Kouen grabbed her wrist, then said, "Just sleep here, it's fine."
Sera smiled and nodded. She laid on Kouen's bed and fell asleep. Kouen continued with his work while looking at her occasionally.
I guess somethings aren't meant to change.
