The cool and soothing water hit their faces. Splash! They hit the water at the same time.
" Whoo, "Ocean stuck his head out. "Yo sis! "
"Right here bro!" Glacier also resurfaced. ''Check out all these fish l found swimming around. "
Ocean had a sly smile across his face. "I think this call for a fishing competition!"
"BRING. IT. ON."
The two dove into the water and soon enough they found themselves a seafood meal fit for the king. "Wow I have never seen such a big meal." Usually the two only gets fed scraps because they were small and "didn't need much food to live on." But Nun Amy, Nun Amy would try save them food. Still, the other kids would find out that Nun Amy "has favorites" and doesn't give them food, as a result, the twins are still as skinny as ever.
"Today it will be different," Ocean raised his fish on a stick after it is hot and cooked through on the small, feeble fire they had made with barely any resources.
By this time Glacier had also raised her fish. "To our birthday, our unknown iden tity, and... of course, this fish!"
"Cheers!" The twins happily hit their fishes together, and gobbled down one of the best meals they have ever had in their life.
"Well, let's head back, shall we? Nun Amy might be worried by now"
They slowly wadded back into the forest and through the woods. Anna seemed to have lead them very deep into the trees, but with all their books hidden in the barn memorized and their intelligence, they found the road back into the orphanage by the time the sun sets below the horizon. leading the way, Ocean realizes that there was a sickening burning smell, mixed with what seems like...blood?
A horrible feeling struck the two, and they ran towards the the glowing sky.
It wasn't a long run before the smell of smoke is stronger, a couple steps and turns the twins saw the fiery red glow of the orphanage. They can still hear the screams and crying coming from the inside. Even though they can tell that these are the people who bullied them ever since they arrived, they couldn't do anything if they tried. The whole building was on fire, with no possible way of escape, and the orphanage is miles away from the nearest town, they couldn't get help either.
But Nun Amy is in there.
Nun Amy, the only person who had ever given them motherly love. The thought of the ashes of Nun Amy puts tears on their faces.
Glacier was suddenly struck by a thought.
"The necklace," she mumbled, "Ocean, THE NECKLACE!" Ocean stood dumbfounded, trying to process her words. Before he realized it, Glacier pulled him and ran toward the little shack behind the orphanage home.
The shack is a worn out little independent barn looking building. It's also their secret hideout. They spend most of their time there. Glacier and Ocean hide all the little things they find in there. There is a journal, a collection of odd looking rocks, some biscuits, their pet-a cricket named Clover, and most important of all, their family heirloom; all hidden in a hollow spot on the ground under the messy stack of grass. No one knows why the shack was there or what it was for, no one has the use of it anyway.
The twins busted open the door, which collapsed easily since it was also on fire, but the shack isn't burning as badly as the main building. If they are quick, they can grab all their stuff and get out in time.
Fate doesn't seem to be in their favor today. The grass was blown all over the ground of the shack, leaving a flaming ground. Their things were nowhere to be found.
"It must have been blown away by the wind, look in that corner, and I'll check out this side."
A bright green glow soon caught Ocean's eyes.
"Glace! I found it! Over here!"
Glacier rushed over, seeing Ocean trying to reach for the jade necklaces.
Nun Amy told them that when they first appeared on the doorsteps of the orphanage, they were wearing the necklaces. The necklaces were pure jade, green and vibrant with a soft glow. She tried to piece them together; it seemed like a piece of jade split into twos. On the front side when it was put together was a fancy "night," on the back of Glacier's said "Glacier" and on Ocean's "Ocean." Nun Amy figured "Night" was their family name, although Night wasn't a common name within the area. It was their only clue to who they are.
"Stop!"
Ocean paused and looked at her.
Whew. Glacier thought. "Use something else to grab it; it's probably burning hot right now."
Ocean nodded, taking off his shirt to help while cursing under his breath about how hot the can was and how he didn't think through the situation. He quickly got a hold of the necklaces and together they dashed out towards the door.
They did not make it before the heavy supports crumbled in front of them. The exit is burning since the door they busted open was on fire too; the high windows were no help either.
With the fire caving in, the two backed up to each other in the center of the shack.
Pretty soon the twins started coughing, the gas filling their lungs. Glacier is starting to feel dizzy.
"Glace, don't sleep." She can hear Ocean's voice and nodded, telling him she was awake, but she just wanted a bit of sleep, it's getting darker.
"Glace, I'm still here... "
"Glace, remember our dream? We will find ourselves someday."
"Glace, you promised we will never be apart."
Glacier wants to tell Ocean she is fine and to stop babying her around, but no sound is to come out of her mouth, her throat is so dry.
"Glace..."
