The Feds had a mighty long arm, and they utilised that arm as a full-scale search was launched against the terrorists. Up and down the country, emergency meetings were called by bosses manning IRS offices, bank branches, dozens of government agencies and bureaus, airlines, and staff allocated to compile list after list. A mammoth cross checking of lists began and it wasn't long before the computers started throwing out interesting and pertinent facts.

The Feds also took over the murder investigation of Ryan and because of the link, the abduction of Professor April Lee and her young son, Daniel. They met a few jurisdictional problems, but nothing that couldn't be sorted with a few phone calls.

"Get that Governor on the phone. What's his name again? Watts?"

The murder of Ryan had occurred on federal property anyway. The U.S. Coast Guard had responsibility for lighthouses but they wer part of Homeland Security anyway. Watts was told in no uncertain tones that this whole thing was now a federal investigation and that Hakim and his cronies would face federal charges if caught, and that meant one thing. The death penalty.

The trouble with universities was that on the one hand they gave out a good education but they were also a hotbed of new ideas, and sometimes radical new ideas.

Angel had definitely become radicalised through the process and through her study of journalism and in particular the history of the media, photojournalism, and conflict reportage.

She had emerged with top honours but also with a deep-sated hatred of her-country's foreign polices. The feeling had been reinforced when she took her
masters in International Relations.

Her raven black hair masked an intelligent face and
Hakim could see as soon as he met her that she was obviously a deep thinker. She had a copy of Marx in her hands, her reading glasses perched precariously on her long nose like a bird of prey waiting to pounce from a tree branch. Hakim knew within an hour of meeting her that he could use Angel to help push through his plans, and besides, he needed a woman on his team to help look out for April Lee and her son Daniel. He already knew he could never let them go once this thing was over. He had liked Angel's suggestion that they be dumped at sea.

The sea could bury the dead.

It always did.
