Part One
When Sebastian woke up the room was dark. It took him a few seconds to figure out what had roused him.
Jim was the early riser of them, normally Sebastian slept deep enough that he didn't even recognize when his boss left. But this time Jim had managed to wake him up, even though it had happened unwillingly.
Sebastian heard him talk incoherently and pant, as if he was out of breath. The room was pitch-dark; it must've been in the middle of the night.
Sebastian felt Jim moving next t him.
"Jim?" Carefully he reached out and felt for the other man. He managed to find his shoulder and was frightened: Jim was shaking like in high fever.
"James? James! Wake up!" He rocked him coarsely. "Wake up, you're dreaming! Jim!"
An elbow clashed with his face in the dark.
"Damn!" Sebastian distanced a bit to stay out of Jim's reach. "Jim, it's me, Sebastian!"
The talking had stopped suddenly, but he could hear Jim breath heavily.
"Hey" Sebastian reached out until he found Jim's hand. "Hey, you're okay. It was just a dream. You're okay." Instinctively he placed a kiss on Jim's hand.
"You're okay, it's me."
"Sebastian?"
He could feel Jim's shaking hand wrapping around his. A moment later it wandered down to his wrist. Sebastian sighed.
"This again?"
But he stayed in place and let Jim feel his pulse.
"It's okay. You're awake. You're awake, James."
Jim's eased sigh was clearly audible. He let go of Sebastian's wrist, laid back down and took a deep breath, still shaking.
Sebastian kept the distance. He knew that Jim didn't like to be touched when he was upset.
"What was it about?" he asked. His eyes got used to the dark slowly, he barely could make out the other man's face.
"Same as always." Jim said quietly. Sebastian heard that he tried to get himself under control again.
"Did I appear?" Sebastian couldn't help but ask.
"Yes."
"Hero or victim?"
There was a moment of silence.
"Bit of both." Jim finally said. His voice was calmer now.
"You okay?"
"I am."
"Bullshit. Come here." Sebastian rolled over and felt out for Jim.
"What? Why?"
"It's good for you. You're still shaking." Sebastian fought down Jim's weak resistance until he allowed him to lie at his back; one arm wrapped around him and his face in his hair. It felt good. It felt safe.
Sebastian cringed when Jim placed both his hands on his forearm.
"God, you're ice cold."
"I've always been."
Sebastian knew his boss well enough to hear the smile in his voice. He chuckled.
"We both know that's not quite true, boss." he murmured, his lips close to Jims ear.
He could feel the other man slowly relaxing in his arms. Carefully Jim placed two fingers at his wrist again, to feel his pulse. Sebastian didn't know why but it seemed to calm him. He was already half asleep when Jim asked: "Tiger?"
Sebastian made a hum to show he was listening.
"Just thanks for... You know."
"I know." Sebastian murmured into his hair and smiled a bit. "I know."Part Two
Jim didn't know how long he had waited but it felt like hours. He felt Sebastian's breath on his neck and listened to it until he was sure that his sniper was sleeping deeply. Carefully and very slowly he lifted the other man's arm, rolled over and sat up.
Sebastian murmured something and turned on his back, but didn't wake up. For a moment Jim watched him in the dark. There was a strange feeling in his stomach.
When he got up and closed the bedroom door behind him he recognized that his hands were still shaking. He clenched his fists to suppress it.
The kitchen floor was cold. Jim put the kettle on, sat down and buried his face in his hands. The clock above the fridge told him it was four in the morning.
When the smell of tea filled the kitchen, Jim heard a noise behind him. He tensed up, placed his cup on the stove and reached under the table top with his free hand. He took the gun out of its stash and turned around in a heartbeat, in one second he was holding his breath and aiming, his hands perfectly calm now.
Sebastian was standing in the doorframe, barefoot, in shorts and a Pink Floyd shirt, hands raised to shoulder height.
"Easy" he said. His blonde hair was all messy and there was already a bruise at his cheekbone where Jim's elbow had hit him.
"Why are you not sleeping?" Jim lowered the gun and tried to relax.
"Thought you mind need company." Sebastian's voice was throaty from sleeping. He entered the kitchen and ran his hand over his face.
"I don't." Jim unloaded the gun and put it on the table. Then he eyed his gunman. He looked incredibly tired.
If the world could see us now, Jim thought. London's two most dangerous men, frightened by nightmares and sleeping alone.
Without a word he handed Sebastian his cup.
"Thanks." The other man took a sip and grimaced. "I need coffee."
"I don't have coffee."
Sebastian murmured a swear. Then he reached for a cupboard above Jim's head, brought down a pack of cigarettes and a lighter, opened the foil and put a cigarette in his mouth.
"Moran." Jim's voice made Sebastian cringe. That never happened when his sniper was fully awake and Jim quite enjoyed it.
"If you want to survive you won't lit one of those things in my kitchen."
"Sorry boss." Obedient Sebastian put the cigarettes back.
"And stop hiding things out of my reach!"
Sebastian chuckled and tried to place a kiss on Jim's head.
"Get off me, you idiot!" Jim evaded and stretched out a hand to keep Sebastian aloof but had to smile. "Please Tiger, go back to sleep. No one will take me seriously anymore if my bodyguard falls asleep during a meeting."
"I'll stay here as long as you do." Sebastian said and tried to make a stubborn face. Jim sighed.
"Everybody else would be dead by now, you know that?"
"I love you too, boss."(Thanks for reading! I want to upload more one shots soon. Sorry for any language mistakes! Please let me know if you liked it ❤)
