The book had a cover that I loved. Honestly if I could have somehow copied it down I would have it as my floor, my walls, my bed sheets, everything. It was so… me. Anyway, back on topic. This book with an awesome cover was a gift. From whom I had no idea but I found it in a little box on my dresser when I got home from my babysitting. Mom and Dad weren’t home, and neither were my brother or sister, so I was very curious as to who it was from.

I had sat on my bed after taking my dog out. He sat on my lap as I opened the box. The box, by the way, was just a plain old grey gift box. It had a TARDIS blue ribbon around it, though. It looked cool.

Inside said cool-looking box, was pitch black tissue paper that hid whatever was inside very, extremely well. I reached in and immediately felt something hard. From the sound of my fingers hitting it I guessed that it was a book, and when I pulled it out, lo and behold, it was a book. The cover was awesome, as I previously stated, but it was too hard to describe for me to do it now. It just appealed to me a whole lot, if that makes sense. It suited me I suppose.

I opened the cover, immediately pulling the book up to my face and inhaling deeply. It smelled like and old book, which I thought was funny because it looked so new. I smelled it one more time then I nearly dropped it. It smelled like my grandparents’ house. It’s hard to explain but they had a house we always visited when I was little, and it had this very specific smell that I loved, and the book somehow smelled that exact way.

I looked down at the open book and saw a little yellowed envelope. I picked it up carefully, afraid it would poof into a little pile of dust like in cartoons if I wasn’t careful enough. I opened it and pulled out an equally yellowed and old letter. Yes, a letter. I didn’t get letters unless they were from grandparents.

Spoilers.

Was all it said. My mind immediately went to River Song, but it was a widely-used term and not just from Doctor Who, so I made my mind go down a different path. Spoilers, as the name implied, could be hints at future things. About what though? And why was it in this weird book?

I was about to begin reading when my dog started barking like crazy. Mom and Dad were home. I shoved the book under my pillow and tossed the box under my bed and ran downstairs.

Eleven oh three that night…
