Raya's POV
I ran to the bench, beating Tana to it. "You're a rotten egg!!" I screamed, plopping down. "You owe me 50 cents!!!" Tana rolled her eyes, not wanting to pay up. Thinking back now, it really wasn't much, but whatever. "Whatever. You smell like cabbage anyways," she said, reaching into her pocket. "My allowance is a dollar anyways." "No way!!!" I said, thinking that having an allowance was the coolest thing ever. "When I'm good, nothing happens. It's only when I'm bad something happens." I said, not knowing what was wrong. "What do you mean?" She said, confused. "Well, if I'm good my mom doesn't notice. When I'm bad, my mom grabs my dads belt and-" A young women stopped me. "Raya, do you want to stay at our place for a little bit?" "That would be nice." I said, confused. 'What's wrong about only being noticed when your bad???' I thought, confused. I spent two nights at her house, then walked home, only telling Tana that I was leaving. Like normal, I got beat when I came home because I didn't come back home the other night. Tana and her mom eventually came back letting me and Tana play. I didn't know what was happening, but I heard screaming come from inside. Eventually my mother was arrested and Kathy, Tana's mom got full custody of me since my dad died. That's how it's always been. No parents that are alive or love me. Just Kathy, Tana, and me.
"Cause I know I can treat you better Than he can" I sang at the top of my voice. I had the house to myself since Kathy was at work and Tana was at cheerleading. "And any girl like you deserves a gentleman" I walked out of my room with my phone to grab food. As I walked into the kitchen I heard a loud bang at the door. I looked through the window to see two strangers. One was a girl with wavy brown hair and light blue eyes. The other one was some guy with brown hair with faded blue at the top and green eyes. I opened the door, thinking they wouldn't do anything bad. "Hi." The girl said, tears in her eyes. "Hi?" I questioned, not recognizing her. "I'm Maddie from school. Do you remember me?" I thought for a minute, then realized who she was. She was some girl who went to our school. She was never really that popular, but she had a girl she would talk to all the time. I think her names Macie??? Something like that. I opened the door knowing she wanted to talk. "Can I - we tell you something? We." She said, forgetting the guy was here. "Sure?" I said, confused. "You can't tell anyone," the guy said. "Anyone?" I repeated. "Anyone." Maddie said.
