It was finally the day of the ball. Sebastian had made breakfast, and now he was getting the mansion ready for the ball. Ciel was in his study and working on things for Queen Victoria and the Funtom Company. Sometimes he and Sebastian would go out on trips that would last the entire day. Whenever I asked, he said it was work for the queen. Being the Queen's Guard Dog is no easy task.

"Hello, Tanaka," I greeted when I passed him.

He sipped out of his cup and did the same chuckling thing he did every time.

"I cannot wait to speak with you once you have enough energy."

After the fire, something happened with Tanaka, which made him go into a shrunken form of himself. Every few weeks or months he would return to his original state for a few minutes, and it was nice being able to speak with him when it happened.

Before the fire, my parents used to throw many balls here at the manor. When it happened, they would always have me go...hunting. Ciel knew about it, but he did not know how I got rid of them. All I could do was hope he did not give me a task to complete. There were already too many deaths on my hand.

I forced that thought out of my mind and went to the garden. For some reason, it was eerily quiet. No birds or insects chirping, not even any bees or hummingbirds collecting nectar and pollen.

"Show yourself Sebastian," I called.

"How did you know I was here? I was deathly quiet." He said with suspicion laced in his voice."

"You are probably not as quiet as you think you are," I teased.

"More importantly, where have you been sneaking off to at night? You skip meals and mysteriously disappear for hours and arrive just before dawn."

"I don't know what you are talking about. You must be letting your imagination run wild."

His face was expressionless, he did not even smirk. "I am no fool Kitten. What do you think you are playing at?"

"I am not playing at anything, Sebastian Michaelis. Aren't you supposed to be fixing the mansion up for the ball? You are just wasting your time trying to find out something that is not true." I said, trying to change the subject.

"I know you are trying to change the topic of our conversation, Kitten. But do not think for any second that you are off the hook. I will figure out what you are hiding."

He walked back to the manor. I fell down to my knees and covered my face with my hands. At any second he would be able to figure it out, and I would be doomed. Ciel would never look at me the same way, I just know it.

Hours passed, and it was almost time for the ball. I managed to occupy myself by reading. Even though the manor was huge, there really was not much to entertain myself. Thankfully, Lizzy arrived just as I had finished my book.

We went up to my room to get ready for the ball. Paula accompanied us in case we needed help. She had two plastic bands in her hands with jingle bells on them. Every few minutes she would wave them in the air and say, "jingle, jingle, jingle!"

I associated myself with strange people.

Paula and I helped Elizabeth get ready first. After some time, she was in her pink ball gown and had her blond hair in two perfectly curled pigtails. Lizzy looked in the mirror and squealed while jumping up and down.

"I look so cute!"

Lizzy handed Paula one of my corsets, and she tied it tightly on me. Corsets were absolutely horrible in my opinion. After that, I put on my dress and did my hair, It cascaded down to my waist in perfect curls, different than the braid I usually had my black hair in.
