Click. The sound echoed through the halls of the manor. I twiddled a lock of my black hair between my index and thumb, a sign of my anxiousness. Every few minutes I'm drawn back to look at the newspaper on the light brown coffee table, containing the words of either a big joke, or the shocking truth.
Deceased member of House Phantomhive not dead after all?
The words were stuck in my brain, like a broken record repeating the same thing over and over again. It seemed like a cruel joke - something too cruel to be true. But was it possible he had been able to survive the raging flames that brought down our manor?
"Elizabeth, I'm going to go see if the rumors are true. Don't be concerned if I'm not back tonight," I said.
"It's Lizzy, not Elizabeth," she scoffed, "and you better send a carriage for me if... If he really is alive."
The pain in her emerald green eyes was visible. Not only had I lost my brother, she had lost her fiancee. Ciel was very important to her. I used to watch as the both of them played together when they were merely toddlers. We walked to the front of the manor, where Paula, Lizzy's personal maid was waiting patiently.
"Are you ready to depart, Lady Y/n?"
"As ready as I will ever be."
She gave me a gloved hand, which I graciously accepted. I sat down on the black velvet seat of the carriage and looked at the purple ring on my finger, a ring my parents had given me a few years back. The band was a shiny silver, and the gem itself was amethyst. I watched as the coachman got up and sat in front of the carriage, holding the reigns. The horses snorted as he brought down the reigns and they went into a trot. Paula waved goodbye as the carriage began moving away from the Midford Estate. I turned my head and watched as the mansion began getting smaller and smaller, until it was out of view.
There was no turning back now. It was time for me to find out if my brother was alive or not. So many questions needed answers. If he was alive, why didn't he bother looking for me? But if he is dead, then who is residing at my parent's estate; the Phantomhive Estate? After the big fire, all that was left of the grand manor was ashes and other scorched items that weren't fully destroyed. Even though it happened almost a year ago, there was no way someone built the entire manor already. It was just too giant to fix in one year. My parents told me it took three years for the manor to be built. and filled with furniture.
As we began getting closer to the estate, it was becoming harder to see with all the fog. From what I could make out, we were extremely close because of the trees all packed densely together. Even if it was summer, the area managed to make it seem like autumn or winter. It was quite funny how my parents were such nice people, yet they lived in a very dreary part in the outskirts of London.
"Oh my..."
Looking forward, the manor was completely rebuilt. It was as if it never burned down in the first place. Whoever built it made it look exactly the same as the first manor.
"This has to be a really horrible joke," I told myself.
The carriage stopped in front of the manor, with the water fountain behind. It was one of the only things that wasn't destroyed in the fire. The water cascaded into the small pool beneath it, littered with a few green leaves the wind had blown in.
"Lady Phantomhive, we are here," the coachman said as he opened the door.
"Thank you so much. If I am not outside in five minutes, then please leave without me," I replied.
He nodded his head, watching me as I stood in front of the big doors, about to knock. Just as my gloved hand was about to make contact with the door, it opened. A man with raven-black hair stood tall, towering above me.
"My master was not expecting any guests today, do you mind telling me who you are?"
I took a deep breath in before replying. "My name is Y/n Phantomhive."
"I'm Ciel Phantomhive's older sister."

I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. This chapter is heavily edited. I wasn't too satisfied with the original one, so I decided to go back and rewrite it. For those of you who are already reading this book: don't worry, it still goes with the rest of the book! It's kind of just reworded and makes a bit more sense then before.
I may go through all the chapters and do the same to them. Please do not worry, the story and the plot will still be the same.
Don't forget to like and comment!
