The last few chapters are pretty short I know, but this thing is drawing to an end. Really.
Logan had left the police half way saying he had forgotten something and doubled back to the manor.
But instead of going in, he went round the back, keeping to the trees and shrubs to stay hidden.
There was something up with that manor and its occupants. Like the police had said, they seemed to calm over the disappearance of a friend. A few of them had said that Anwen was tougher than she looked and they were sure that she was fine.
It had been hard to interview the twins and Uncle Charlie.
Apparently, some of their ancestral madness had gotten into them and they had the medical certificates to vouch for it.
However, Uncle Charlie saw Anwen as a friend and wouldn’t hurt a friend.
The twins were unpredictable, swinging between hostile and nonchalant at a bat of an eye.
But Charles Hargreaves assured the police that the twins did not leave the house unless accompanied by either him, or at least two of their older brothers, to keep them in check.
Still… Logan was sure that there was something up with Victor.
He didn’t give a damn about what James had said about them being trained and taught to keep their expressions neutral- he was too damn calm and non-caring about Anwen’s disappearance.
He wasn’t about to let Anwen be a Hargreaves victim, not if he could help it.
Logan got to the messy, thorn filled garden when he heard Victor calling out for Anwen.
Ah-ha! He knew it!
“Annie! Dammit, kid- get out here right now before I lose my temper!” Victor called, beginning to get annoyed, “Anwen Mariani!”
Logan stepped back to avoid being seen but stepped on a dry branch instead.
The snap sounded like a gunshot through the garden and Victor spun round, “Annie?”
With no other choice, Logan stepped out.
Victor scowled angrily, “I can have you arrested for trespassing, you know that.”
“And I can report you for kidnapping. I heard you calling Annie- don’t try to weasel your way out of this one!”
“I don’t have time for this. Time is running out. I’m trying to help Anwen and if you cared anything about her you’d stay the hell out of this.”
“What are you talking about? Where’s Annie? I’m not leaving until I see her!”
“Just get out of here! If she sees you I don’t know how she might react! Her emotions are unpredictable now.”
There came a snarl and a blood red monster burst out of the bushes.
“Annie- NO!” Victor yelled.
The creature advanced on all fours before lunging.
“Blackie! Stop her!”
