Avi sighed, listening to the computer fan run as he waited for the wifi to get its shit together.
He planned on doing English work, but that was all finished late last night, so he had a free day until it was time for him to go to school.
A knock could be heard on his bedroom door, and his eyes shifted over to the two pills(one green and one white) on his nightstand.
Avi quickly sat up, slipping the pills in his mouth and swallowing them with water.
"Yeah," he called out softly, just enough for the person on the other side to hear.
The door opened, enough for Avi's dad to look into the room so he could see his son.
"I'm headed to work, buddy," he said quietly. "Mom's in bed."
Avi nodded. Mom was always in bed and dad was always at work.
His dad walked into the room fully, and over to Avi. "I'll pick you up around four," he said, bending over and kissing his son's head. "The Office again?"
Avi nodded and smiled at his dad. But his smile didn't reach his eyes.
His dad sighed and smiled back, rubbing his head before walking out and closing the door behind him.
Avi clicked on the episode, getting ready for his marathon of The Office, but his bedroom door opened again.
"Oh, by the way, Josh can take you to school today. He's off," his dad's voice drew through the room once again.
"'kay," Avi mumbled, resting his head on his arms.
Josh was his older brother. His older brother that played professional basketball (like the pretty pretty boy from school) and he still lived with his family.
Avi wished he could be like his family.
Joshua played professional basketball.
His dad ran a business, and did physical training on the weekends.
His mom, before diagnosed, was... well, he wasn't really sure what his mother did. Because for as long as he could remember, she was down with ass-kicking cancer.
And his sister, Esther, traveled the world, being a pro photographer and all.
But Avi could never be like his family.
Because he had green pills and white pills, and eyes as dull as the night sky.
Because Avi wasn't a star.
