Loneliness is what Scott felt.

Because even though he was the basketball star, there were cuter guys on the team that got lots more attention.

So he occupied himself with basketball practice, his schoolwork, watching reruns of Once Upon A Time on Netflix, and sleeping until he physically couldn't close his eyes.

Scott hated being lonely.

Not like he could do anything about it though.

He didn't think anyone could be as lonely as he was. Well, except for the one kid who was always in the gym the days Scott had practice.

And maybe, Scott thought, he should go over and talk to the kid, because Scott didn't want anybody to be as lonely as he was.

But he always put it off until the kid was picking up his guitar case and walking away through the gym doors.

Scott always kept an eye on the boy when he was sitting there in their practice area.

Because they shared the gym with the football team, and that lonely kid was always watching the football team closely, hardly taking his eyes off the captain.

Scott enjoyed looking at the way the kid stared at Kevin.

In fact, he wondered if they were together.

But that was silly, because Kevin was always too busy throwing himself at girls and alcohol to notice the boy.

And Scott wished someone would look at him like that.

It didn't make any sense, did it? Aren't stars supposed to get attention?

He deserved it.

Because Scott was the basketball star.
