As we pulled down the long gravel driveway that led to my house, Cody murmured

“Wow..” Under his breath.

“What?” I asked confused, I looked over to Cody and he was staring out his window looking over to our big red barn, which was probably about an acre off from the driveway.

“I’m just not use to seeing all this open land” he said in amazement as he looked around the property. I laughed and said

“yeah we have just over one hundred acres, it’s a lot of fun though..”

“I bet.” Cody said. I parked the truck and looked over at Cody. He was staring at our house, it’s an old house. Probably built in the 1890’s. I love it, it is all white with dark blue shutters, two stories, all wood floors and has a nice wrap around porch, which I think in my moms favorite thing about it. She comes outside every morning and sits in the rocking chair by the front door, drinks her coffee and watches the sun come up.

“Its beautiful..” Cody said while looking at the big old house.

“Are you ready to go in?” I asked him as I was turning the truck off.

“Now or never, right?” Cody said. We got out of the car and started to walk up the stairs of the porch as Jase pulled up on his four-wheeler.

“Hey kids!” Jase said as he took his helmet off, covered in mud.

“Hey, where’s mom and dad?” I asked him.

“In the barn I think.. If you go out there, you better take your quad, it’s real muddy.” Jase told us.

“Not a good day to wear white jeans, huh?” Cody joked. Me and Cody walked over to the garage where I keep my yellow four-wheeler, Jase put his helmet back on and rode off into the field as our Australian Shepard, Dolly chased after him.  I opened the garage door and looked over at Cody.

“Have you ever rode one of these before?” I asked him.

“Never.” He said as he was staring at it looking terrified.

“You’ll love it, I’ll drive slow” I said laughing. I handed Cody a helmet, dad gets mad if we ride without them, and we got on the four-wheeler. I started up the quad and told Cody to hold on tight so he doesn’t fall off.

“What do I hold onto?” he asked.

“ME!” I told him. He then wrapped his arms around my stomach, I couldn’t help but smile.

“You ready!?” I said, trying to talk over the loudness of the four-wheeler.

“I guess!” Cody said as I slowly pulled out of the garage, I drove along the dirt path made out of our quads tire tracks that led to the barn

“Go faster!” Cody yelled. I sped up and felt Cody grip onto me tighter. Mud was flying everywhere. Cody seemed to love it though. I stopped the four-wheeler right outside the front doors of the barn. We got off the four-wheeler and I looked over at Cody and from his knees down he was covered in mud.

“You’re only here for ten minutes and you’re already all dirty.” I joked with him. We both laughed and walked into the barn.

“Mom!?” I yelled as we were walking through the barn.

“Over here, honey.” My mom yelled back from one of the horses stalls. We walked over to her and she was brushing one of our older horses, Harley. Harley is Miles’ father.

“Hey mom, this is Cody.” I said. My mom sat the brush down and wiped her hands off on her jeans.

“Hi Cody, I’ve heard a lot about you.” She said as she reached out to shake his hand.
