"So is it like a normal thing to walk around on earth without a shirt on or..."
"You woke me up." Marco scowled.
"Still, for the poor neighbours eyes. Put a shirt on, Marco. Put a shirt on."
Marco finished what he had been doing (Putting the couch out) and marched upstairs to find a shirt. Tom studied some framed certificates on the wall until he returned.
"So how long have you been doing karate for?" He said, trying not to sound interested.
"As long as I can remember."
"What belt?"
"Red."
Tom choked back a laugh.
"What? You think you could beat me in a fight? Go ahead, fight me!"
"I'm not going to fight you Marco."
"Why not?!"
Tom wanted to say. "Because I don't want to hurt you. I'd never forgive myself." But instead he choked out:
"Fine. If that's what you want. Bring it on."
Marco could've won, in fact he probably would've won having Tom not been at least 3 inches taller, about 5 times as strong and able to throw fire. He pretty much threw Marco to the ground and stepped on him.
"Wow," Marco whispered clutching his painful neck. "When did you get so strong? Do you like go to a gym or..."
"I've always been this strong, if not stronger. I just go easy on you."
"Why?"
Tom thought about saying, "because I love you." But ended up saying " I don't want to use up all my energy on you."
"But aren't you a demon."
"Um yes."
"Demons don't sleep,"
"We don't need to sleep to stay alive."
"You're not even alive."
"Shut up. I'm getting to that. We don't need to sleep to stay alive, but you seem less like death if you get at least an hour or two. I mean come on Marco, you didn't really think I was going to sit all night watching you sleep. I'm not Santa. Where's your bathroom?"
"But I thought demons didn't need to..."
"Zip it. What I do in the bathroom is information that shouldn't be shared."
"Okay, go into the dining room. 3rd door to the right."
"Thank you."
