my birthday had come without me even realizing. you'd rung the doorbell of my house and appeared before me with a gift bag in your hands.
you'd smiled and wished me a happy birthday. i was shocked that you 1.) knew my birthday when i myself didn't even remember and 2.) unexpectedly showed up at my door with gifts.
i moved aside to let you in, and you gladly stepped into my home. we sat down on the couches as i took out the contents of the bag.
there was a lot more in there than i'd expected. i first pulled out a gift card for my favorite bubble tea shop. then a box-set for a series i'd been dying to read. on top of all that money you'd already spent, there was still more.
the next thing i pulled out had me speechless. "taeyong, i cannot believe you right now! you did not just spend that much money on a pair of shoes i told you i wanted! i can't accept these, they costed way too much! go return them and get your money back!"
"minseo, i don't care how much they cost, as long as you're happy," you replied. i gave you an 'are you kidding me right now?' look. you just grinned back at me.
the last thing i pulled out was and is my favorite. i even still wear it to this day. it was a necklace.
"i know this isn't anything much compared to the other stuff i got you, but i saw it when i was out in the street markets and it just immediately reminded me of you, so i got it," you said, rubbing the back of your neck.
"it's beautiful! thank you so much, taeyong, i love it," i smiled. you helped me put it on then grinned as you dragged me out for ice cream.
