"Hazel, we have some good news."
I was in the middle of blowing a huge bubble, when the high pitchness of there voices made it pop. I chewed it back into my mouth before responding, "Uh-huh."
I knew whatever my parents wanted to tell me was only good news in there books. Which is along the line of old fashion, which would explain my name pretty damn well. "We want you to get dressed in some normal close because we have arranged a marriage for you and the family will be here in about twenty minutes."
I flipped off my bed landing on my feet. "What the hell?! Why would you arrange a marriage we are in the twenty fucking first century. No one does that shit anymore!" I screamed at them.
"Hazel, do not use that kind of voice or language in front of you parents ever again." Ha.
"Like you guys are really my parents." I retorted, crossing my arms over my chest and looking them square in the eyes.
"We are the people who raised you and we demand that you get dressed in a presentable outfit and be downstairs in twenty minutes." John, my 'father', said sternly before grabbing a hold of Mildred and shutting my door. Who tells there adoptive child that they have arranged a marriage for her right before they suspect her to meet the family? Oh, smart ones.
Well if they wanted me to be presentable then presentable is what they get.
(20 minutes later)
I heard the doorbell ring and Mildred call my name out. I took a quick look in the mirror and smiled at my work. I had on my favorite pair of black skinny jeans, my pink tutu and a neon yellow tank top. I had smeared on some thick eyeliner on and my deep brown almost black hair was pin strait, I didn't think I looked to bad. In fact, I looked like I had yesterday only with a tutu and a different color shirt. I quietly zipped down the stairs to see everyone already sitting in the family room. I smiled at everyone, "Hey, I'm Hazel." I introduced myself.
I could tell John and Mildred were beyond pissed at me by the expressions on there faces, I looked at my sister who was merely amused, and the other family was gaping at me. Don't you just love first impressions?
I looked at the guy I was supposed to be 'marrying', I could tell by the pure shock and disgust on his face. My smile just got bigger. I knew I could get out of this.
"Are you seriously expecting me to marry this emotional cutting freak?!" He yelled at his parents as I entered the room and he got a full view of my outfit.
Some how I just smiled bigger. But don't worry, I didn't cut myself, not all of us do. I just think it's fun to dress like this; rebellious yet interesting.
"Jacob. You are going to marry her, there is no questioning it. Now please take a seat and be polite." I suppose the father said to him. He was a grouchy old man with no neck and a hug double chin with thick glasses and a balding head. I think I'm going to nickname him Tubby. Yea, Tubby it is.
I looked over at his mom and was surprised, she was just so small and, well beautiful. She had long brown hair that was softly curled, fair skin, and huge bright green eyes that looked so innocent. She could probably pass for 22 and a church goer.
Now Jacob was a different story, he was taller than me, probably about 5'8, yet he did have just a little bit of muscle that covered his arms and probably his chest, he had light blonde hair with big dark brown eyes. He had mostly taken after his father except he wouldn't get the nickname Tubby; he would be like Rail or Post.
For the rest of the night I didn't talk to Jacob but at eight Mildred had instructed us to go up to my room and starting packing my things since we would be leaving in an hour and apparently I was going with them. I grabbed my plain suitcases and duffles out from under my bed and threw them on my bed, opening each one, all the while Jacob stood in the door way. "Just stay there." I instructed as I walked over to my dresser and pulled a draw all the way out and dumped it into one of my bags. I continued this process, when I was done I walked over to my closet and started to rip things off the hangers and shove them were ever they would fit. I put pressure on the bags and zipped them shut. I grabbed two duffles, swung them over my shoulder and then grabbed a rolling one and walked out of the room slowly. "You can get the last two." I ordered Jacob while walking past him. God, we haven't even talked and I could already feel myself starting to hate him.
I returned downstairs to find that is was 8:58. I dropped all my crap onto the floor with a loud bang, causing everyone to turn and realize the time. "Oh, wow. Nine o'clock already? Well I guess we better get going." I heard Jacob's mother say, I learned that her name was Ashley.
I quickly ran across the room and into my sisters arms, "I'm going to miss you! Promise me that you will live with us soon!"
"Of course!" She hugged my as tight. She wasn't really my sister but she acted like it and she was really the only person I really thought of as family besides my bestest friend Lily.
I let go and walked over to Mildred and John, "Goodbye." I said formally and then walked away to see that my stuff was gone and so were the Browns. God, who leaves there future family member to go searching for them. I walked outside and my jaw dropped. There was a limo waiting outside with the driver holding the door open, I quickly ran across the lawn and into the limo, crawling to the fair side.
I looked at Jacob, who was ignoring me and looking out the window, probably acting as if I didn't exist. Well at least for the moment we were on the same page.
