Grey fumes. Flaming embers. Choking smoke...
filling my abode with the scent of death.
My throat is constricting as if fettered to a yolk,
and each breath becomes a dying struggle.
I can hear man. Swearing and cursing above,
as he forces the flames upon my lungs.
All through my life I have known no real love
and I am slain by an unreasonable hate.
My eyes cannot see, my ears cannot hear a note
as furling smoke covers my senses in grey.
Hot ash falls upon my once gleaming, russet coat
which is standing on end knowing fate is nigh.
I'm drowning in an ocean of darkness and black,
my mouth breathes in and my lungs will fade.
A branch is catching fire, burning and then... Crack!
It falls upon me with scorching, merciless flames!
I arch my back and give vent to my suffering and agony,
my coat is set aflame. Red fur set truly alight.
As if from underwater I hear man laughing at his spree
and his joy costs me my only life.
