The last two weeks had been like a fog. It was harder than I thought not talking to Tre especially with him being around every corner I turned looking at me and waiting for me to approach him. I made it my business to never be in the hallway alone. I mostly had focused on school and talked to Ken pass the time.
"Umm Nay, did I do something?" I looked up from my desk to see Tyler sitting in his seat.
"No why would you think that?" I replied with a weak smile.
"You've been distant. I mean we didn't even study last week at all, the week before that you were distracted and every time we talk on the phone you seem drained."
"I've just been tired. It's nothing about you." He looked at me concerned before looking away as if he had something he wanted to ask. I had to admit he looked so cute at that moment. I really wished I had a phone to take a picture of him with.
"Hey Nay, you think your mom would let me take you to the dance on Friday?" He looked at me with his eyebrows raised.
"I mean you could ask her. I'm not sure what she would say." I put my head down and it suddenly hit me. "There's a dance Friday? ARE YOU ASKING ME TO GO WITH YOU?"
He started laughing extra hard. "Nay will you go to the Spring Ball with me?"
"Ty, I mean, I don't have a dress. It's totally last minute."
"I know, I'm sorry. I wasn't sure that I would have enough money but I saved up enough to cover whatever dress you could want."
"Ty I won't feel comfortable with that."
"Nay come on bae. I really want you to go with me." I blushed at him calling me bae. The truth was I really wanted to go to the dance with Ty. The glimpses of light in my dark situation with Tre had been Tyler and I truly should give him a real chance.
"I'm not going to say yes or no. You have to ask my mom." I replied. He grinned with much confidence. "
We'll go pick out your dress tomorrow."

"OMG Nay! You look so pretty!" Ken squealed. I blushed extra hard.
"So do you." I replied. We stood in my living room, both of our mothers smiling brightly. They were snapping pictures like crazy.
"I'm happy I talked you into coming." I said squeezing Ken's hand. I was extra nervous. I didn't believe my mom would say yes in a million years but here I was completely ready for my first high school ball.
"I'm happy I'm not third wheeling it." Ken said with a laugh.
"Yeah, Tyler's friend said he has been crushing on you forever."
"Nay, he better be cute."
"He alright."
"Alright?"
"Yeah, you'll be good." Ken pouted and I smiled. Jackson was cute but I would let her see for herself. He was much better for her than Von's no good behind too.
Soon there was a knock at the door. I felt my heart speed up. Was he here already? I'm not ready for this. My mom got up and went to the door.
"Hey Mrs. Miller." Ty greeted. "This is my friend Jackson."
"Hello." Jackson sounded like a grown man. His voice was extra deep. I saw Ken pep up at the sound.
"Nice to meet you Jackson." My mom moved to the side and let the two guys in.
"Close your mouth." I whispered to Ken. She did but her eyes did not move away from the stunningly dresses milk chocolate, gray eyed God standing in front of her. He smiled show a row of perfectly lined top teeth and a set of diamond bottom grills. They locked eyes and for the first time I saw Kennedy blush. I was super surprised. Ken has never in her life been shy.
