I felt like I was imagining things but something was different, wrong. I couldn't put my finger on it but my boyfriend felt distant.
"Ty, you ok?" I asked pausing to look at his spacey face. He had been zoned out and only copying my homework today. Even in school he kept looking at his phone. He smiled.
"Yeah bae, I'm fine." He leaned toward me and kissed my cheek. "I do have to go though. Can we finish this tomorrow?"
"Yeah...you sure you ok Ty? You not getting a cold or anything are you?" I put my head on his forehead.
"I'll be sick any day if it means you'll be my nurse." He laughed pulling onto his lap.
"You're fine if you can still say that corny mess." I laughed back before kissing his lips deeply.
"I love you Nay." I looked at him wide eyed. It was always at the tips of our tongues but we hadn't said it yet.
"I love you too." I replied wrapping my arms around his neck and resting my head on his shoulders.
"I wish everyday could be this simple." He rested his chin on the top of my head and stroked my thigh.
"It can, once we get to college we can lounge in the dorms all day until it's time for class. We'll have scholarships so you won't have to work so much." I looked up at him and he had a blissful smile on his face but his eyes were so distant as if I weren't talking about a few months from now but an impossibility.
"Do you know how much I appreciate you bae?" He questioned looking down at me. His eyes were filled with sincerity. I smiled feeling warm inside.
"I don't do anything."
"You do everything."
"Does it bother you that we haven't had sex yet?"
"Why would it? I can wait until your ready." My body felt relief.
"You said you were about to go." I said moving to get off his lap.
"Are you ok? You feeling better? I'm sorry I worried you. I've just had a lot on my mind this week." He questioned holding down.
"Yes, I was only worried about you."
"Alright bae." He helped me to my feet and then stood himself. He leaned down to me and kissed me deeply holding my cheeks.
"I love you baby girl. I mean that from the bottom of my heart."
"It feels like your saying goodbye." I laughed. "I love you too Ty."
"Not goodbye, see you later bae." He chuckled. I walked him to the door and watched as he walked to his truck. I went into my room and thought about the last few months. Ty and I had made it official only a few weeks before school started. I was still hesitant. It wasn't like Ty hadn't proved himself. I never saw him with any females other than me. He was dedicated to me. We went on plenty of dates. We knew each other very well. It just didn't make sense anymore for us to not be together. He was my best friend that I shared everything with. I had formed this deep bond with him that I couldn't see disappearing.
The house phone rang and I knew it had to be Kennedy.
"Hello."
"What's up girlie?" She replied.
"Nothing, Ty just left." I answered.
"Oh, let's hang."
"What we gonna do?"
"Let's go for a walk. I need to get out this house."
"Ok, I'll meet you at your house." I hung up the phone and put on my shoes. When I made it to Ken's house she was standing on the sidewalk. We linked arms and continued walking. Neither of us said a word, we just listened to the sounds of the hood as we walked; someone was yelling down the block, a siren was ringing in the distance, someone's car was bassing music.
