Everything sharpened into focus the moment Pierce woke up. The colors in her room were more vibrant than usual; the lavender scent wafting from the diffuser smelled crisper and more refined. She felt different from before.

Pierce rolled off her bed and landed on the balls of her feet; her legs felt lighter and stronger. She was full of energy, like she could run forever and never tire. It’s as if someone had fine-tuned me while I was sleeping, Pierce thought.

Without knowing why, she knew today was going to be a good day. Pierce hurried through her morning routines and pounded on her bedroom door, letting Indigo know she was ready to head down to the cafeteria. No one responded to her knocking, so Pierce glanced at the clock. It was only 5:34 a.m.

Of course, the one time I actually wake up early is the time Indigo’s not here yet. Pierce had almost half an hour to kill before Indigo arrived, so she grabbed her electro-slate and began to review some of her notes from her social studies class.

·         There is an organization called the Revealers that go against all the principles of the Restorers

·         The Revealers are little more than terrorists

·         They want to abolish any kind of “artificial” improvements in the human race

·         They have caused public panic. Examples include:

o   Breaking into a government sponsored lab

o   Starting riots in the streets

o   Hijacking public news-screens

·         The Revealers want to stop the evolution of humans into a more superior race

·         The Revealers is a dangerous organization that needs to be put down

If the Revealers had it their way, Pierce thought, I will probably be killed since I am everything they stand against. I hope I never meet a Revealer member.

She heard Indigo’s footsteps approach her room; by now, she was able to differentiate each person’s footfall patterns from each other. Pierce rapped on her door and said, “Hurry up and let me out of here. I’ve been waiting for you for forever.”

“You’re already up?” Indigo said, sounding surprised.

“Yes—hurry up.”

The door clicked open. Pierce pushed the door out and said, “Let’s go grab breakfast. I’m starving.”

“You seem to be in a good mood.”

“I know today’s going to be a good day.”

“Ha!” crowed Pierce. “How does it feel to lose for once?”

“Ugh,” said Indigo, lying flat on his back outside of the fighting ring. “Not so good.” He stood up and massaged his shoulders. “That was a fluke. I demand a rematch.”

“As you wish.”

Pierce lunged towards Indigo, dropping down low at the last second and using her legs to sweep him off his feet. Indigo jumped over her leg just in time to avoid falling on his face.

“Not fair!” he said. “I never said to begin.”

            “Who said I played fair?”

Indigo managed to grab Pierce around her neck. She thrust a hand up between her throat and his arm, preventing him from completely cutting of her air supply. With her other hand, she pried away one of his fingers, bending it backwards until he was forced to let go. The moment his hands released their hold on her, Pierce spun around so fast Indigo never saw her knee going up to his guts until it was too late. He doubled over and Pierce shoved him out of the circle.
