"Hey Peter! Hey Harry!" Nine year old Madelyn chirped as her best friends approached the bus stop. It was a very cloudy day with fluffy gray clouds soaring high above the ground."Hey Madelyn!" Peter greeted and gave her a short hug.
"Hey Madly," Harry shyly said. He wasn't as enthusiastic as Peter but could be really funny when he wanted to be. He also called her Madly because he was clever enough to come up with another nickname. She had five already.
"Where were you last night?" Peter asked. "I thought we were playing Cops and Robbers, like Harry said we would."
"I know, I know... sorry. Mrs. Brinkley told my mom and dad that I had to catch up on some paperwork I didn't finish," Madelyn countered. She looked up at Harry and noticed I he wasn't being his normal self. He was too shy. Too quiet. "You okay, Har-Bear?" She felt pleased with herself for coming up with the nickname so quick.
Harry looked up at Madelyn and quietly said,"What did you just call me?" Madelyn felt a twinge in her stomach and became interested in that glob of dry black gum below her.
When Harry saw her shoulders slump and her smile sag, he felt bad. No one breaks up that cheerful happy spirit of hers.
"I love it,"Harry smiled, and Madelyn lit up with joy.
"Thank you,"she murmured with a smirk. The bus rounded the corner and headed their way. The trio picked up their backpacks and clambered on the yellow school bus.
After riding with noise surrounding them on the way to school, they all went to their classes hurriedly.

Freshman Year"Are you forced to go?"Peter declared furiously to Harry. They were all getting off the bus when Harry decided to tell them a surprise. His dad was taking him to a boarding school some place across the country and he was going to leave Peter and Madelyn.
"Yes! For the love of-! Pete, you know my dad, and how strict he is with me. I have no say in this whatsoever. If I did... I wouldn't leave my best friends-"
"We have to go, Mr. Osborn,"a man in a black suit spoke in a gruff monotone.
Harry looked over his shoulder at the man and walked over to put his luggage in the glossy black SUV. While all this happened, Madelyn kept quiet. She was so shocked with the sudden news, that it was as if time had stopped and pulled her away from reality.
"Madelyn..."Peter's familiar voice rang from somewhere to her left. "Madelyn!"
She snapped her head up and saw Harry standing a couple feet away. His eyes sprinkled with tears and they raced towards each other, not daring to let the warm embrace falter. He pulled slowly away, and his smooth thumb brushed her soft cheek wiping the flowing tears away.
She didn't know when she started crying, but she didn't really care because this was the last moment they would both be together before he left to his despicable boarding school.
"Harry..."she began,"You're my best friend... we've always been there for each other and I want you to know that I-I love you. And I've always been in love with you..."
"You say this now?"he calmly speaks, trying to hide the devastation on his pasty face. "Madelyn... I-it's just. I'm-"
"I know. I'm sorry! It's so stupid to say right now... but I wanted you to know, so that it would keep you going through the years of boarding school. I'll always love you."
Then Harry Osborn craned his neck down and planted a soft kiss on her lips, leaving her insides being melted.
"And now I'll say that my first kiss was with you. I will never forget you, and I'll always love you, too." He gave Madelyn one final hug and walked over to Peter, who was also sniffling a bit.
They gave each other manly hugs, before Harry climbed in his car and drove off to who knows where.
